Salford, 1971. George Khan is determined to raise his family in the traditional Pakistani way, but his children have other ideas. As they push back against arranged marriages and the futures chosen for them, their mother, Ella, is left trying to hold the family together.

Funny, sharp and still as relevant as ever, East Is East remains one of the most loved British films of the last 30 years.

Life Drawing is back at Yarn, this time with artist and educator Harry Coates.

Across six Tuesday evenings, you’ll have time to develop your drawing practice through close observation of the human form. The course is open to everyone, whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to deepen your skills.

Harry is an Irish artist based in Aghadowey, best known for his expressive figurative paintings. An experienced educator, his work has appeared in exhibitions across Ireland and the UK, including the Royal Ulster Academy.

All levels welcome. All materials provided.

Senior yoga and meditation teacher joins us at Yarn on Saturday 26 September for two very different practices.

Welcome to Yoga, 10.30 am–12 pm

A gentle, open practice for beginners, anyone returning after time away, or anyone curious about what yoga can offer beyond the poses. Expect simple movement, mindful breathing and practical ways to find a little more calm and ease.

We’re delighted to announce our next Artist in Residence at Yarn: Joan Alexander — Proof of Ghosts; The Postal Darkroom.

13–19 September 2026

For one week, Ballycastle-based artist Joan Alexander will take over Yarn with an evolving studio exploring photography, absence, grief and ghost stories.

Drawing on 19th-century spirit photography, experimental photographic processes, and the everyday ways we remain connected to what is absent, Joan will work with ghost stories, shadow casting, light and photosensitive plant pigments, inviting people to encounter the work as it develops and contribute along the way.

Across the week, you can:
- Share a story at the Ghost Desk
- Encounter Joan’s developing Postal Darkroom
- Drop into an Open Studio
- Join a free Plant Pigment & Shadow Casting Workshop

The residency opens with a launch night on Sunday 13 September, with events and opportunities to take part continuing throughout the week.

All events are free, with a mixture of bookable sessions and drop-ins.

Arborist is coming to Yarn this November.

Belfast songwriter Mark McCambridge brings to Ballycastle, following the release of his fourth album, Looking for Love.

Winner of Album of the Year at the 2023 Northern Ireland Music Prize for 'An Endless Sequence of Dead Zeros', Arborist has collaborated with Kim Deal of The Breeders and supported artists including Low, Cat Power, Echo and the Bunnymen, and Guy Garvey.

Performance - 20 November.

The Cork writer and poet has built a devoted following through work that blends introspection with sharp social commentary, making space for vulnerability and resilience.

ONE LAST SUMMER GATHERING

Before autumn arrives, there is Lúnasa.

For generations across Ireland, it marked the beginning of the harvest. A time to gather neighbours, share food from the land, tell stories and celebrate everything the summer had given before the season began to turn.

This year, we're bringing a little of that spirit to Yarn.

Across one special weekend, we've teamed up with our friends at to celebrate the harvest in the best way we know how: over good food and in good company, with plenty of great music and conversation.
