The alphabet is back 😁 tonight we're are doing O for Ocean!!
North Devon's coastline faces the Bristol Channel, which opens westwards into the Celtic Sea and the wider Atlantic Ocean. Around Lundy, those waters meet, making it interesting enough to be part of the shipping forecast.
I have included some snippets of the many faces of the ocean I see around North Devon. From the clear, turquoise of Combe Martin to the stormy Westward Ho!
The last snippet was taken the day we wandered up to the Lookout at Westward Ho! I went back into the village to capture the stormy sea, I was facing side on to the spot of the wall that was giving sea spray, only to be caught out whilst I wasn't looking and was treated to a free hair wash where I was standing!! I dripped back to the car to the amusement of the family patiently waiting 🀣

The golf course might have been parched but the sea was sparkling and showing off its range of blues 😍
I am back now after it taking 8 hours to get home, train cancellations everywhere and frozen to the bone!!

🏑 N is for North Devon Resort!

With October half-term approaching, I thought I'd share somewhere that offers families a few options when the North Devon weather isn't quite so inviting! 🌧️

I've had a look around North Devon Resort in Ilfracombe, including the accommodation and children's indoor play facilities, and wanted to share a little of what I saw.

It's always useful to know what's available beyond our beautiful beaches, especially at this time of year. πŸ’™

These are my own impressions from visiting.

It has taken me a long time tonight to gather these photos and snippets. I love this lovely area. There is a toll to get in to the park but from memory this is just Β£8 and gives you access to all 3 entrances. This entrance sees you arrive driving along through the holf course where ponies and sheep graze. There is a lovely cafe and visitor centre over to the right and left there is the walk over the top and there are now a few additions to where there used to be just Hockings, there is also a coffee point!
There is a series of qr codes that guide a wander, one of which tells you all the points you can see in a mini pod cast style delivery. You can wander around the edge or you can sit and watch the golfers play. There are little scenes in the dunes like elf doorways and one time I found a pile of decorated stones. There is so much to recommend this lovely little place, it is well worth a visit πŸ₯°

🌊 M is for Mortehoe!

Mortehoe might be a little village, but there's certainly plenty going on!

From its lovely old church and local museum to the tractor trips, scarecrow trail and spectacular coastline around Bull Point Lighthouse, there's so much to discover.

We've explored the museum, joined in the scarecrow trail and enjoyed both tractor trips over the years. One took us towards Bull Point Lighthouse, while the other headed towards Morte Point, where we spotted seals sunbathing on the rocks through binoculars! 🦭

And of course, there's that wonderful sea view as you head down towards Woolacombe. πŸ’™

Another lovely stop on my North Devon A–Z!

🌸 M is for Marwood Hill Gardens!

I do love snowdrops, and when Rosemoor is particularly busy during snowdrop season, Marwood Hill Gardens is one of my favourite alternatives.

There's something lovely about wandering through the gardens and finding little clusters of white flowers tucked beneath the trees, with hellebores and other early blooms adding splashes of colour.

We've visited in the summer too, but there's something about those first signs of spring that keeps drawing me back.

Another lovely little corner of North Devon for my A–Z. πŸ’š

L is for Lee Bay πŸŒŠπŸ’™

A little tucked-away cove on the North Devon coast, with a rocky shoreline, beautiful scenery and plenty to discover when the tide goes out.

It's a bit of a wander from the car park, but that's all part of discovering this lovely little corner of North Devon.

L is for Lynmouth πŸŒŠπŸ’™

Yesterday we wandered around Lynton, so tonight we're heading down the hill to its lovely neighbour, Lynmouth.

There's something rather special about this little village, tucked between the wooded hills and the sea. From the harbour and rocky beach to the river running through the village, there are so many lovely corners to explore.

And of course, there's the cliff railway if you fancy travelling between the two without tackling that hill on foot! 🚞

Lynmouth is also home to five clues in my North Devon Adventure Quest, giving you another reason to slow down and look a little closer. 🐾
