Looking for where to stay when doing the Pendle Witch Trail? 🧙♀️
Make Hampton by Hilton Blackburn your base and discover one of the most haunting chapters in Lancashire’s history.
The story began in 1612. Twelve people from the area around Pendle Hill, were accused of causing deaths through witchcraft. One died while imprisoned, one was acquitted and ten were found guilty and hanged following the Lancashire witch trials.
Today, the 45-mile Pendle Witch Trail follows the journey connected with the accused. The self-guided route can be explored by car, bike or minibus, passing through the old villages beneath Pendle Hill, the Ribble Valley and the Forest of Bowland before reaching Lancaster Castle, where the trials took place.
Along the way, you can visit Newchurch, Barley, Downham, Clitheroe and the atmospheric Trough of Bowland, piecing together the events of a story that continues to fascinate visitors more than 400 years later.
With complimentary breakfast to start the day, and a convenient Blackburn location for exploring Pendle and the Ribble Valley, Hampton Blackburn is a practical and comfortable place to begin your journey.
