18 meters long, along our green platform: The Saloon Coach sleeps four in comfort. It has a fully-fitted kitchen, a family bathroom along with a lounge-diner making the most of its the panoramic windows.

Its setting is idyllic with a stone bridge as a backdrop and surrounded by greenery and birdsong (owl hoots, especially in the autumn).

The lantern on the station's canopy. A magnificent structure within a cantilevered frame. Original to the station design of this William Clarke building.

Re-built in the 1980s as part of the early stages of station restoration, this early autumn (taking advantage of the weather) we made some repairs, cleaned and repainted it.

Flooding the interior of the station's lounge with natural light, the covered space provided under is the perfect spot for admiring the views in comfort and for alfresco dining.

Crucially when the station was in operation, this generous canopy would have covered train passengers all the way to the platform's edge.

A cosy getaway for two, the Parcel Office is a unique self-contained studio. The log fire keeps the space warm while, by sliding the double doors, the place can offer our countryside views or enclosed it _to have the full experience of the home-cinema.

The Parcel Office is located along the station platform, with easy level access from the main car parking area.

A favourite with returning guests: especially many who once having stayed over the summer, like to come back in autumn and winter months.

This holiday week, we look forward to welcoming familiar and new faces to Rowden Mill Station.

In between rainy days, the autumn sun shines over the station, clear blue skies above.
We are getting ready to receive families coming to stay this week during the school half-term holiday.

Dilwyn's ironmongery shop is often mistaken as a museum, every nook covered in tools_ antique and modern, all sturdy-looking. Inside, it is an Aladdin's cave- like place, when you can steady the eye you start noticing the labels explaining the uses and types of tools and parts available. 'Please ask for the tool' is one of these notices.

On opening up the Victorian box lock, he brought it out to the sun shining on his threshold. Crouching at the entrance, Dilwyn explained what was wrong with the workings.

With a wealth of historical buildings in Herefordshire, 'Lock, Stock and Barrel' is one of the few ironmongeries left where antique or period locks can be stripped, cleaned and re-eased. Making up or replacing worn levers, springs or bolts.

From Dilwyn's collection of old keys, he may repurpose and shape a new replacement key which was exactly what we needed as for the station's weighbridge, we had only inherited the one key.

A week later, we were able to collect the repaired Victorian lock and the replacement key.
Now, the weighbridge office is secured again without the need to replace it with any modern piece that does not belong. All in all, very happy with the result.

The repair of the weighbridge office dook lock was needed to finish off sprucing up this original station building. It had movement and every now and then would lock you out, clearly not ideal.

The period door piece needed someone with knowledge of Victorian box locks and we knew exactly who to call in with: Dilwyn from 'Lock, Stock and Barrel' in Hereford. The enthusiasm for his craft is palpable. When he got to know about our interest in restoration work, proceeded to show us the intricate detail on some of his current locksmithing projects for heritage buildings (as shown here in the last picture).

Having taken the lock off the door, we were certain that it would be repaired and left it in the expert hands of Dilwyn.

Fungi love. It is that season when around the wooded areas, on dead wood and logs left on the ground, near trees and on stomps, different coloured mushrooms appear. Year on year, we look forward to rediscovering where the fungi will pop up around the station grounds.
