Two log burners, each with their own character.

Tucked into the exposed brickwork of the sitting room, the Hobbit Stove is a little feature with plenty of charm.

The second log burner sits between the modern kitchen and snug, creating a natural focal point between the two spaces. In the snug, a corner sofa and large wall-mounted TV make it a welcoming spot to settle in, with the fire adding warmth to the heart of the cottage.

Two distinct spaces, each with its own character, brought together by the simple appeal of a real fire.

The little luxuries make the stay.

A long shower, a slower morning, and a little time to yourself.

Just 1.5 miles from Blacksmith Cottage, Deer Park Farm is quite literally on the doorstep.

Around four minutes by car or 30 minutes on foot, it makes an easy addition to a stay, whether that’s breakfast and coffee, a wander around the shop or time exploring the countryside.

The café has plenty of lovely indoor and outdoor seating, serving breakfast, freshly squeezed orange juice, coffee, sandwiches and light bites. There’s also a farm shop, florist and further shopping upstairs, making it a lovely place to browse at a slower pace.

Then there’s the walking.
The longest route is a 5km loop around the site, taking in both the Woodland Walk and Deer Park Walk, where you can spot the resident deer and alpacas along the way. There’s no need to tackle the full route either, the walks can be broken down into shorter sections, with waymarkers around the site showing you which route to follow.

There’s a large, free car park too, making it an easy stop whether you’re heading over for breakfast, a countryside walk or a little bit of both.

And there’s a lovely connection to Blacksmith Cottage, many of the products in our welcome hampers are sourced from the Deer Park Farm shop, so it’s a local business that’s already part of the Blacksmith Cottage experience.

Apparently, it’s autumn.

You wouldn’t know it from here.

Blue skies, long afternoons in the garden and the hot tub catching the last of the sunshine.

We’re not quite ready to let go of summer just yet.

Beau had a very happy week at Blacksmith Cottage.

There was plenty of running around the garden, exploring the countryside and generally making the most of being away.

With space for up to four dogs, four-legged guests are very welcome at Blacksmith Cottage too. And judging by Beau’s face, she thoroughly enjoyed herself.

Weekend, but make it slow.

When was the last time you had time to properly sit down and read a book?

No emails. No errands. No list of jobs waiting to be done. Just fresh sheets, a good book and nowhere you need to be.

Sometimes a weekend away is simply about having the time to do the things you never seem to have time for at home.

A slow morning at Blacksmith Cottage.

Grind coffee, fresh air and a quiet moment before you head out to explore.

Sometimes, the best days start slowly.
