🎃 STORM AUSTEN, STORM ABIGAIL… WHATEVER YOUR NAME IS, YOU'RE NOT RAINING ON OUR PUMPKIN PARADE! 😂🌧️

Well, we sent the girls out to spread the word about our Halloween Pumpkin Competition, and somewhere along the way Storm Austen became Storm Abigail! 😂

Safe to say, we'll be sticking to pulling pints and leaving the weather forecasting to the professionals! 😂

Jokes aside, please do take care out there in this awful weather. ❤️

Now, onto something we're really excited about...

🎃 OUR CHILDREN'S PUMPKIN COMPETITION! 🎃

After the wonderful turnout and support we received last year, we couldn't wait to bring it back!

There's something really lovely about seeing all the children's creations lined up along our pub wall. The effort, the imagination and the excitement they bring make it such a special little community event, and we're genuinely looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with this year. 🧡

And there's a £50 restaurant voucher up for grabs for one lucky winner!

It's that time of year again... 🍂

The darker evenings are creeping in, the fires are back on, Guinness is tasting that little bit better and the menu is full of proper comfort food.

There's something about this time of year that makes a good old-fashioned pub feel even better.

It’s back!! After last years fantastic turnout, we couldn’t resist bringing it back for another year !

It’s time to get carving creative for the Crown & Crossed Swords Pumpkin Competition! 🧙‍♀️✨

We’re on the hunt for the spookiest, silliest, and most fang-tastic pumpkins carved or decorated by the kids of the village (and beyond!) 🕸️💀

🧡 Simply pop your pumpkin on the wall outside the pub between Sunday 25th - Wednesday 28th October , they’ll make a boo-tiful display for everyone to enjoy!

🕷️ All pumpkins must be in by Wednesday 28th October, voting will take place on Thursday 29th October! 🏆🎃

🧾 Please register your pumpkin at the bar before placing it on the wall so we know who to contact if you win.

🍽️ And here’s the treat worth carving for! 🧡
The winning pumpkin will earn its creator a £50 voucher for you and your family! — a frightfully good family feast! 🍴✨

A little trip out of the pub 🍇🍷

On Tuesday, we were lucky enough to be invited along to visit Lanchester Wines.

We were given a behind-the-scenes tour of Greencroft Bottling, where we got to see the whole process, from the enormous w**e tanks to the bottling, sealing, labelling & packaging.

It's something we've never really given much thought to before. We order our w**e, it arrives at the pub and we pour it for our customers. But seeing first hand just how much work goes into getting that bottle onto our shelves was a real eye opener.

And of course, we couldn't leave without a little w**e tasting! All in the name of research, naturally. 😂🍷

We've come away with a whole new appreciation for the w**e we serve, and even managed to find our next guest w**e along the way. Watch this space!

A big thank you to everyone at Lanchester Wines, especially Derek and Alan, for taking the time out of their day to show us around and share their knowledge.

Fresh slow-cooked beef mince in rich gravy, wrapped in pastry and topped with a fluffy dumpling

These mince pies are absolutely delicious, hearty and packed full of comforting flavour and have certainly been amongst today’s favourites!
