Reno update pt. 2 🐀
Glorious Croyde sunsets aside, the graft on site hasn’t stopped and barn progress remains right on track for the new steel frame.
The facilities, however, haven’t been quite as smooth.
Once we pulled everything back, we uncovered the full reality: completely failed drainage (those blocked toilets make sense now…), rusted-out chassis under the old cabins, rotted walls, and a few cat-sized rat residents who’d made themselves very comfortable.
It’s a much bigger job than first hoped, but we’re taking the time to do it properly so these facilities are reliable and built to last. We’ve also put up temporary tin shelters so the team can push on straight through the winter weather and have everything ready for summer.
As always, treading lightly on the land comes first. Everything is designed to sit low in the landscape: timber cladding that will silver naturally, farm-style corrugated sheets, and stone plinths matching our Devon banks. With our summer wildlife now departed for the season, we’ve ordered whips to thicken the hedgerows, preserved our no-cut wildlife corridors, and brought in specialists to give the trees some TLC ahead of spring.
Behind the scenes, we’re also redesigning the parking area to create a much calmer arrival for campers, locals, and sauna goers alike.
Thank you for bearing with us through the messy, unglamorous bits, it’s going to be so worth it.
