One of the best things about Northmoor is where it is.

Exmoor has a bit of everything - open moorland, wooded valleys, rivers and coastline - and it’s a landscape that has inspired writers and artists for hundreds of years.

Northmoor sits amongst the woodland near Dulverton, making it a great base for getting out and seeing more of it during your stay.

Northmoor is looking very autumnal at the moment. 🍂

The leaves across the house have turned a brilliant red, which looks particularly good against the old stone when the sun comes out.

The colours don’t hang around forever, so we always enjoy them while they’re here.

We don't want to think about winter quite yet but with so much woodland surrounding Northmoor we do look forward to a long ramble followed by a cosy fire in the living room.

These aerial shots show just how much wild space there is to explore straight out of the door.

There is a mixture of antique pieces, old book collections, vintage crockery and a growing selection of houseplants around Northmoor which we hope makes it somewhere homely and interesting to stay and explore.

Some have been here for years and are part of the history of the house, others are treasures that have been added along the way.

One of the joys of having a historic home to look after is also looking after some incredible pieces of craftsmanship from years gone by and having somewhere they can be used and appreciated for many more years to come.

Old wooden doors. Stone walls. Wisteria that’s been climbing the house for years.
It’s the little details that give Northmoor its character.

They’re the sort of things you might not notice straight away, but the ones you remember long after you’ve gone home.

We think that’s part of its charm.

A comfortable chair, a cup of tea, a good book, or simply somewhere quiet to sit while the rest of the house carries on around you...

A proper country house kitchen.

Practical, welcoming and well equipped for large groups, with everything you need to cook, eat and spend time together.

The Aga is always earning its keep, there’s a large table for everyone to gather around, and cupboards full of plates, serving dishes, pots, pans and plenty of mugs for endless cups of tea.

When everyone’s staying under one roof, this is naturally where people gather. Whether it’s the first cup of tea of the day or getting dinner on the table for a crowd, the kitchen is always busy.
