When the wind's up, we love to drive ten minutes to Pendennis Point and walk the headland. Waves breaking below the castle, Falmouth Bay laid out in front of you, and St Anthony lighthouse across the water. Then down into town for something warming. These spots are all laid out in out Falmouth walking tour!

A self-guided four-mile walking itinerary of Falmouth: harbour, Pendennis Castle, Cliff Road, Gylly Beach, Princess Pavilion, the High Street, and 350 years of town history along the way.

Seal pupping season has started. Grey seals haul out on Cornish beaches through the autumn and winter, and there are a handful of places where you can watch them properly without disturbing them. We've rounded up the best, from the clifftop at Mutton Cove to the Seal Sanctuary on the Helford, with how to watch responsibly.

Leave Trewena and you can be at the Helford in under fifteen minutes. Our favourite autumn walk there drops through the woods to Durgan, follows the river past Glendurgan and Trebah as the valleys turn, and finishes at the Ferryboat Inn at Helford Passage. Three miles, and a pint with a river view at the end. Route on the blog.

A 3-mile loop from Bosveal car park, down to Durgan on the Helford River, past Glendurgan and Trebah Gardens to the Ferry Boat Inn. One of Cornwall's quietest classic walks.

October is one of the best walking months in Cornwall. The coast path is quiet, the Cornish woodlands are turning red and orange, and the light goes long and gold by mid-afternoon. We've rounded up our favourite autumn walks within easy reach of Trewena, including a couple you can walk to straight from the cottages.

October mornings at the Tractor Shed start slowly. Low sun across the orchard, French doors open for as long as the air allows, coffee on the patio before anyone's talking about plans. All on one level and the newest of Trewena's three cottages. Built for couples.

Ask people who live in Cornwall the best time to visit would be and many will say autumn. We've rewritten our guide to why, and how to make the most of it as a couple: September, October and November month by month, the walks, the gardens, the seals, the food and the storms. The Oyster Festival starts today in Falmouth, too.

As the nights draw in and we start pulling on our favourite jumper before heading out, it's time to start looking for places that give off that cosyness vibe. In my opinion Cornwall's fishing villages do this with gusto. Cadgwith in October is cosyness personified. Fishing boats pulled up on the shingle, thatched cottages stepping down to the cove, and a pint inside the Cadgwith Cove Inn with the sea right there.

C***r pressing season is a great time to visit Healey's Cyder Farm near Newquay. Not the worst excuse to taste your way through the c***rs, apple juices and Cornish Rattler in the tasting room. An easy day out from Trewena, and a good excuse to take a bottle back to the cottage. Our guide on the blog.

There's a point in autumn when an evening in stops being a fallback and becomes the best part of the day.

Little Avalon was made for times like these. Finish your afternoon walk as the light begins to go, get the wood burner going, and settle in with a glass of something and nowhere else to be. The rain can do what it likes outside. Built for two, and at its best on nights like these.

Mornings at Little Avalon. Coffee in the garden, the beams and the quiet, and no particular reason to rush anywhere. It's the most traditional of our cottages, built for two, and people tend to fall for it.
