Undercastle Cottage The only 5-star holiday cottage in the New Forest. Sleeps 6 & dog friendly on the banks of the Avon. and it’s all within a two-hour escape from London.

Undercastle Cottage is the only 5-star rated holiday cottage in the New Forest National Park. You’ll love how it blends boutique luxury, total seclusion and wildlife watching. Anglers can enjoy gold-standard fishing, with 2,500m of private fishing rights along the famous Hampshire Avon River, which runs along the bottom of the garden – you may remember seeing the cottage in ‘Gone Fishing’ with Bob and Paul, who stayed here. Take a pew on the sun terrace to admire the views all year round, to enjoy spying wild otters, kingfishers, deer, and the forest’s free-roaming ponies, donkeys, pigs and more frequenting the surrounding wood. The cottage is packed with comfort and personality, featuring exposed beams and vaulted ceilings that frame the many oak-framed windows. Both inside and out are unique and one-of-a-kind pieces of beautiful furniture. For the best night’s sleep, enjoy restored antique beds topped with handmade luxury mattresses. And when the seasons turn chilly, there’s underfloor heating and a toasty wood burner. The cottage sleeps six and is dog-friendly, with two bedrooms in the main cottage, and a separate Fishing Lodge with twin beds and its own en suite. There’s a great gastro pub a twenty-minute walk up the lane, and the fridge can be left full of home-cooked meals to pop in the oven, so every guest can relax. It’s a perfect canvas for lifestyle, travel, and outdoor features: think wildlife photography (there’s also a nature hide for nocturnal shots), fishing tuition and tips and walks and bike rides from the front door. It’s a true getaway from it all luxury retreat in total privacy, surrounded by a stunningly pretty living landscape that changes with the seasons.

Ummmmm, do you think we've gone a little pumpkin mad at Undercastle Cottage?🍂

I couldn't help myself. From the smallest autumn arrangement, pumpkins, berries, fallen leaves and flowers from the garden and the beautiful New Forest foliage have found their way into every corner for the guests coming to stay.

We do love dressing the cottage for the changing seasons, and guests who stay here say they love it.

Are you a fan of zingy orange pumpkins, or do you prefer berry reds and waxy greens?

Tell me which you'd choose in the comments - I'd love to know!

Which would you bags first? 🛏✨️

Three bedrooms, each with restored antique beds and hand made luxury mattresses.

And each with views of the New Forest, wildlife and the famous fishing river, The Hampshire Avon.

I have my favourite, but which is yours?

Let me know in the comments!

Guests often say they wish time could stand still when they are at Undercastle Cottage.

I get it, I feel the same way when I go there too. Long walks in the last of the autumn sunshine, passing ponies grazing on the New Forest's heathland, and all of us taking cover under the trees in the downpours of rain (that was much needed!) we've had this week.

It's definitely mushroom time now, and they are popping up all over the woods and meadows - they are so beautiful.

My favourite bit is getting back to the cottage, lighting the fire and cosying down to enjoy the wonderful feeling of having nowhere else you need to be.

It's these little moments that make time at the cottage so special. And the ones you wish you could bottle up and take home with you. 🍂🍄

I truly love the beauty of nature 🍂

And when it's as vibrant and stunning as the autumnal foliage of the New Forest, I feel compelled to use it to decorate our holiday cottage.

Guests say they really appreciate the effort we've gone to. But if truth be told, I just love titivating, enhancing, styling, and making things pretty!

It calms me, and I find myself smiling, thinking, planning and spending the hours putting it all together.

I don't know who's luckier... me for having such a wonderful canvas to work with, or the guests who book to stay here?

There's still a break available in November if you want to come. 💫

Long lunches, a glass of something nice by the river, autumn walks, good food and evenings in front of the fire.

A few days to slow down, catch up with favourite people and enjoy the New Forest at its autumn best.

Now, who would you bring along? 🐾

🍁 Just one November break remaining.

The leaves are just starting to turn, it's still pretty warm, easily enough to sit in the garden. So, I thought I'd give the Fishing Lodge a little glow up before my friends come over... 🍂

I sometimes feel guilty sitting down and doing nothing.

But after a walk in the New Forest with my dogs, returning to Undercastle Cottage that feeling slowly slips away.

It must be something in the air don't you think? 🏡🍂

Fishing has always been part of life at Undercastle Cottage.

It's amazing to know I can toddle down the garden with a rod and fish the Hampshire Avon without having to go anywhere else.

But what I love most is that it works just as well when only one of you fishes.

When I disappear off to the river, everyone else can curl up by the fire, or sit on the terrace to watch the wildlife, go for a walk in the woods of the New Forest or just enjoy the feeling of complete and utter calm at the cottage.

Besides, sooner or later, everyone seems to end up back by the river anyway.

Fishing cottages with all this on your doorstep are a treat.

If you've ever stayed at Undercastle Cottage, you'll know there's something about being here, surrounded by the woods and water meadows of the New Forest, that makes you forget everything else for a while.

For me, I just love the simple things. Lying in the hammock, listening to the birdsong, watching the wildlife and knowing there's absolutely nowhere else I need, or want to be.

When I first found Undercastle, I knew it was somewhere I could happily spend hours doing very little. All these years later, I still feel exactly the same.

And I smile to myself that our guests get to experience that feeling too. 💚
It's my favourite place to escape from the world for a while. And I don't feel the slightest bit guilty - should I?

It's Pannage time in the New Forest. Every autumn for 60 days, 'Commoners' who live in particular properties in the New Forest have ancient rights to let certain animals they own out in the forest to graze.

There are particular reasons why pigs are set free in the autumn, and I, for one, absolutely LOVE watching them toddle about. The dinky piglets are ridiculously cute as they chase each other around.

Mind you, their Mummas scare the hell out of me, and you certainly don't want to get on the wrong side of an angry sow - especially the one here. She's called Daisy. 🐷

You can find all about pannage in the blog I've written - it's fascinating https://bit.ly/46rCX98
