🐕️Dog Friendly, Done Properly. 🐾 Walks from your door.

One of the best things about staying in West Cornwall? Some pretty spectacular walks start right on your doorstep.

There are are so many amazing walks, but my personal favourite stretch of the South West Coast Path is the one linking Praa Sands, Rinsey Head and Porthleven. Autumn and spring are particularly special times to enjoy it.

Starting from Praa Sands? Car Parks near the Welloe, at west end of beach.

Fuel up with breakfast at The Welloe, then head along the mile-long sandy beach before joining the coast path towards Rinsey Head. This stretch is relatively gentle, with beautiful sea views all the way.

Starting from Rinsey Head? Car Park at Rinsey Head, follow Rinsey Lane to end.

Follow the path across the headland then turn towards Porthleven, with the coastline opening up in front of you. Allow around an hour to an hour and a half, depending on your pace, but be prepared for some steep hills along the way. The views make the effort worthwhile!

Once you reach Porthleven, head down to the harbour and reward yourselves with a drink at The Ship. Once you have explored Porthleven (foodies heaven!), you can walk back along the road but this is a less scenic route, or check the local bus service for a lift back.

A few things to bear in mind if your dog is coming too: there are a few stiles along the route, and livestock may be grazing in places. Keep your dog on a lead where needed, and check they can manage the stiles before setting off.

Sea air, sandy paws, big coastal views and a well-earned pub stop. Its got to be the best way to spend an autumn day!

Windmills & Corner Barn near Praa Sands, or Rinsey Head House, make great bases for exploring this stretch of coast.

📍Save this walk for your next West Cornwall escape with the dog. 🐾

Mousehole’s Halloween Magic 🌟
Every October half term, Mousehole goes all out for Halloween. The villagers decorate their houses and gardens top to bottom; it’s really not just the kids but whole families (and yes, even the dogs) getting into the spirit. Grab a costume, hit the cobbled streets and see if you can spot the best-decorated house. There’s fierce competition, and down one tiny side street you’ll find something unforgettable. No spoilers, but you’ll know it when you see it!
🎃If you’re out trick or treating, just look out for front doors with a glowing pumpkin; that’s your sign to knock. Families with younger kids start at dusk, before the truly spooky costumes come out later on! And when the bags are full and sugar levels high, head to The Old Coastguard for a well-earned treat of your own!🍷
Half Term in West Cornwall is filled with fun, go pumpkin picking, take blustery walks, go wild swimming and warm up with a hot chocolates but don’t miss Halloween here; it is something you really won’t forget!
➡️If you want to be in the heart of the action Mousehole Cottage is available for a 3 night stay 31 Oct - 3 Nov, alternatively we have several cottages just a short drive away - check out our Special Offers Page.

A Proper Autumn Day in St Just 🌿
St Just is Britain’s most westerly town, sitting right on the edge of the Atlantic and surrounded by some of West Cornwall’s most spectacular coastline.
Start with coffee at the Dog & Rabbit, tucked away just off Bank Square. Then take a look around the Jackson Foundation, where you can currently see The Cape, a new exhibition of work by local artist Kurt Jackson inspired by Cape Cornwall.
From there why not head out onto the coast path towards Cape Cornwall and witness for yourself the inspiration behind Jackson’s latest exhibition. Walk as far as you fancy, taking in the rugged coastline and old mining landscape.
If you have the legs for it, carry on towards Botallack and finish at the Queen’s Arms for a late lunch and a pint. There’s a bus stop right outside the pub, so you can catch a bus back to St Just.
Or head back into town for a pasty from McFaddens or an ice cream from Moomaid on the Square (they also have a wide menu of other options).
Then spend late afternoon exploring Cot Valley and Porth Nanven. The walk down through the valley to the coast is beautiful at any time of year, and Porth Nanven is famous for its unusual, rounded stones.
Finally, back to St Just for a browse around the independent shops, a pint in The Star or simply back to your cottage to put your feet up.

📍Save this one for an autumn day in West Cornwall.

Dog Friendly, Done Properly. 🐾

The seasonal dog bans are now lifted on many Cornish beaches, which means the dogs are free to run, splash and explore again!

And autumn is a great time to enjoy West Cornwall. Quieter beaches, miles of coastal walks and plenty of space for exploring with your four-legged friend.

Most beaches are dog friendly throughout the winter, but always check local restrictions before you set off.

Thinking about a Cornish break this autumn? We have some special offers running too. Head to our Special Offers Page for some inspiration.

Stay like this.🍂
A winter reset in West Cornwall.
Arrive at Bosavern, unpack, and settle in. It really is as simple as that.
There is plenty of room to spread out, so whether you are here with family, friends or the dog, everyone has space.
Start the morning slowly in the big farmhouse kitchen. Make coffee, cook breakfast and decide what sort of day you feel like.
On a crisp winter morning, walk into St Just for coffee or head straight out onto the footpaths towards Cot Valley and the coast. The landscape around here is at its best when the air is clear and the paths are quiet.
Spend the afternoon exploring Cape Cornwall, Porth Nanven or one of the many beaches around the Penwith peninsula, then come back to Bosavern, muddy boots and all.
There is something lovely about winter evenings here. Light the fire, cook something warming in the kitchen, open a bottle of w**e and settle into the comfortable sitting room while the wind whistles outside.
And if the dog has joined you, there is a fully enclosed garden to enjoy when you are back home, with plenty of space to stretch four legs before settling down in front of the fire for the evening.
Nothing complicated, keep it simple. Just a comfortable house, good walks on the doorstep and a few days to properly switch off.
Bosavern is available for winter and early spring stays.

Stay like this: An autumn getaway by the sea, with Mousehole just down the road.
At The Summer House, a cosy autumn stay is always on the cards.
Start the day slowly. A morning coffee with the balcony doors open, nothing planned too early.
By mid morning, wander down into Mousehole. Pick up something fresh from a local deli, take a walk around the harbour and get yourself a little lost in the picturesque winding lanes.
Head back for lunch at the house or even out in the garden, then spend the afternoon properly unwinding, maybe a dip in the pool, simply enjoying the space and quiet around you. Or if feeling more energetic, head out onto one of the many paths and explore the area on foot; ideally with a four-legged friend by your side.
Later in the day, head out west. If you feel like something a little different, an evening at the Minack Theatre is always memorable, set above the sea with the light changing as the performance begins.
Or keep it simple. Back into Mousehole for supper, then return to the house for a quiet evening, grab a hot chocolate and snuggle up with a blanket for a spot of star gazing.
A house that works from the moment you arrive. Comfortable, well positioned and really hard to leave!

September in Mousehole, ideally with the dog.
September is one of my favourite times to be in Cornwall: the beaches are quieter, the footpaths are still looking beautiful, the sea has had all summer (and what a summer!) to warm up. Best of all for dog owners, dogs are welcome back on most of the beaches.
At Mousehole Cottage, you can start the day with coffee and a sea view, then head out to explore.
Walk along the coast (gorgeous circular walk to Lamorna), spend the morning on the beach, or simply wander through Mousehole's narrow streets before stopping for lunch with a sea view.
When you come back, there is no searching for a parking space. You have your own dedicated parking right outside the cottage, so all you need to do is kick back and relax.
Back inside, settle into the comfortable living space, open a bottle of something and enjoy the sea views as the day turns to night.
It is Cornwall at a slightly slower pace.
There are a few September weeks still available at Mousehole Cottage, grab your spot now! Message me for Details.

🐕️The dog is back on the beach.
One of the best things about September in Cornwall?
The seasonal dog bans on many beaches come to an end, so your four-legged companion can get back on the sand and into the sea.
And there is plenty to enjoy. Long walks on the sand, chasing waves, exploring rock pools and finding a quiet spot for a picnic, without having to watch the clock.
The sea is still warm, the weather can be glorious, and the coastal paths are just as beautiful.
Then head back to your cottage, rinse off sandy paws, pour yourself something cold and settle in for a slower evening.
Quieter Cornwall. Happy dog. No compromise.

Still dreaming of Cornwall this year?
A few lovely late summer and September stays are now available, with special offers and plenty of space for the dog to come too.
If a few days by the coast are still on your wish list, this could be the perfect time to book.
We currently have four special offers available across some of our favourite cottages in West Cornwall.
There is a rare opportunity to stay at Rinsey Head this August. Perched on its own headland, with panoramic sea views, direct access to the coastal path and plenty of space for family or friends, availability here is unusual and unlikely to last.
We also have 10% off selected September stays at three of our cottages, ideal for those who prefer Cornwall once the summer rush is over.
Think quieter beaches, warm coastal walks, long lunches and evenings when you can properly relax without the crowds. As all of our cottages are dog friendly, there is no need to leave your four-legged family member behind.

Whether you are looking for a peaceful break for two, a dog friendly escape or time away with family and friends, there are some great options to explore.
