Waterproofing tanking coat COMPLETE :)

Time to hand over to the proffesionals to do the final top coat rendering now and then we can start looking at paint design ;)

I have to keep reminding myself how far the Gunhouse has come already. Anyone who has ever renovated or restored a building or home will know it can someone times seem a never ending, money draining job of groundwork and making a mess before you can start building up again and I feel like we're finally reaching that stage.

So I have been asked by some of our followers what type of artillery was housed in the gunhouse so I thought i'd put together the attached info.

The pillboxes on the stopline were built to primarily house a QF Ordnance 2-pounder anti tank gun. Before you ask the 2 pounder references the weight of the artillery shells, not the gun! These guns had an effective range of between 1000-1500 metres.

The archaelogy surveys that were carried out as part of my planning approval stated that the Gunhouse at Oakwater Escapes was built to stop tanks crossing the River Isle from the SW on their way into Ilminster. I have tried to illustrate this on the attached map with the white circle showing the location of the gunhouse snd the explosions showing the two crossing points on the River Isle over 1km away.

Ill do a little video tomorrow showing exactly where it was housed in the gunhouse as the mounting points can still be seen in the concrete floor 85 years after it was built.

That's right, our latest video update on the gunhouse at the weekend has had over 20,000 views and rising across our social channels!

I feel that this unique project is really starting to build some interest now which is exciting and great to see.
