Just a quick update on the proposed Highland Council tourist levy anticipated to come into effect from Summer 2028.

It is being proposed that for the likes of The Brewers Cottage we would be forced to charge guests a £5 fee per night irrespective of how many persons are staying.

To sum up the key points as it currently stands, this is still liable to change.

* The Highland Council has now opened its formal 12-week statutory consultation, starting 7 September 2026.

*Importantly, the levy has NOT yet been approved.

*The current proposal is quite different from the earlier percentage-based idea:

* Fixed amount per room/area per night, rather than a percentage of the accommodation price.

* It would apply across the whole Highland Council area.

* The proposed levy period is 9 months of the year, excluding December, January and February.

Obviously there is a long way to go yet and we will keep all guests informed of any updates as we go forward.

After a very unsettled spell of late we enjoyed a fabulous day on the water yesterday. Encounters with a young Minke, Bottlenose and some beautiful Harbour Porpoise. Thanks to Dolphin View Cottages Hillockhead for the great photo.

I'm currently working on dates/ prices for 2028 and these will be released later this year.
With the next Guisachan Gathering happening in 2028 we expect demand for the week to be high once the dates are released ... we are braced already 😃
