Chanonry Point tonight, a lovely warm evening with no wind - also no dolphins just now but a great place just to sit and look out over the Moray Firth. - For those of us who prefer a little more comfort, there's some good picnic benches slightly further back on a higher bit of ground. www.dolphinview.co , ,

The next available week at Dolphin View Cottage is the 23rd November. The good news is that from November through to the end of February (excluding Christmas and Hogmanay) the special offer of 9 nights for the price of 7 applies.

We are also getting booked up for 2027 already, August is fully booked and there's just one April week left now!

Off season is a lovely time to come to the North of Scotland, yes, the days are shorter, but that gives you more chances of seeing the Aurora Borealis if there's solar activity, and the cottage has a lovely log burning stove to keep you warm and cosy after a day exploring.

Update to earlier post.

The proposal made by Ardersier and Petty Community Council to officially designate Ardersier Common a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) went before the Highland Council on Thursday and it has been approved.

This designation as a Local Nature Reserve means a newly formed management group consisting of landowners, local environmental NGOs, High Life Highland and other stakeholders will work together to protect and enhance Ardersier Common to facilitate improvements and support the natural ecosystem. The 47 acres that make up Ardersier Common already provides habitat for terns, goldfinches, badgers, roe deer, orchids, and rare butterflies.

Ardersier LNR will be only the second Local Nature Reserve in the Highlands, the other being Merkinch Local Nature Reserve on the Beauly Firth.

Happy days!

This is an important week for Ardersier. On Thursday Councillors will be asked to approve a motion to designate Ardersier Common as a Local Nature Reserve (LNR).

The Common is one of our favourite places, the shore path runs along the shoreline of the Inner Moray Firth from the village to Fort George, it is backed by a very diverse coastal habitat of shrubs, trees, grasses and marshy bits but it has a good path network throughout. The Common is home to terns, curlews, oystercatchers and goldfinches, there's also areas that have also been carefully planted to attract moths and butterflies.

Fingers crossed the Councillors approve the motion, it is a very special place and well worth protecting.

It's been a tad wet today but looking on the bright side we have some fabulous waterfalls in the Highlands, some are gentle like the head of Fairy Glen at Rosemarkie others are spectacular thundering falls with viewing platforms - notably the Falls of Falloch, Corrieshalloch Gorge and the Falls of Foyers, I think my favourite waterfall is the Falls of Foyers as you park at a cafe and walk down past the waterfalls through woodlands with red squirrels to Loch Ness and then climb back up to the cafe for refreshments and cake! It's a fair drop so the cake is easily justified! www.dolphinview.co

Last week I advertised the remaining summer week for this year (6th June) - the result? Three August 2027 weeks were booked! The week commencing Saturday the 6th of June this year is still available for the price of £750. After that week the next availability for 2026 is not until mid October.

Dolphin View Cottage is the perfect base to explore this quieter part of Scotland. There is so much to see and do in the area.
Highlights include - Loch Ness, Whisky distilleries, Culloden, wildlife spotting - dolphins, eagles including White tailed eagles in the area, miles of dog-friendly beaches, woods, castles, the NE250 (far quieter than the NC500) and lovely coastal villages to explore.

The cottage is located in Ardersier, a small coastal village between Inverness and Nairn on the Moray Firth in the fabulous Highlands of Scotland. It sleeps two, has sea views over Ardersier Bay towards Chanonry Point Lighthouse on the Black Isle, enclosed gardens, WiFi, a smart TV, a log-burning stove, and private parking. You can safely walk from the door along the pavement and then onto a well surfaced level coastal path to Ardersier Common and Fort George. Within the village of Ardersier there are shops, a pub with restaurant plus convenience stores, a hairdresser, cafe and a pharmacy.

We welcome up to three dogs free of charge, our gardens are enclosed with a high wooden fence at the back (5’6’ minimum height) and a lower fenced garden at the front (so you can enjoy those sea views from the front windows). All of the beaches in the area are dog-friendly all year round. We also do have a number of special offers available, including the very popular 9 nights for the price of 7 for holidays taken during the months of November through to the end of February, (excluding Christmas and Hogmanay).
