Some people want to be in the middle of everything. Hunter's Lodge is for the ones who don't.

End of a no-through road, backing straight onto mature woodland – the kind where you step out onto your deck in the morning and the only sound is birdsong. Well, that and the hot tub bubbling away on the wraparound decking. Views over the boating lake, but far enough back that it feels like your own private corner of the park.

This 2020 Tingdene Savannah (Lodge 93) has two bedrooms – king-size master with a walk-in wardrobe, twin for guests or family. Full bathroom, open-plan living, and a proper dog-proof deck so your four-legged friends can relax with you. There's even a big storage shed, which sounds boring until you actually own a lodge and realise how useful that is.

"Had an amazing weekend stay! The lodge is beautiful and extremely well equipped - nearly every need has been catered for. The location against the lake is stunning, and the local ducks seem to love relaxing in the grass outside. The holiday park itself is also stunning and well maintained."

The ducks have been here longer than most of us - nice to know they're still part of what makes it special.

We've been watching the geese gather and the light change, and honestly? This might be the best season to be at the park. Well, we'd say that about every season, but autumn does something different.

Wildlife of the Week: The Pied Wagtail 🪶
Spotted this little character on one of our lakeside paths.

The pied wagtail - you'll recognise it by the tail-bobbing. They're drawn to the water's edge, same as the rest of us. Different reasons, mind you - they're after insects, not peace and quiet.

If you're taking a morning walk around the lakes, look for them near the shore. Quick little birds, black and white markings you can't miss. Worth pausing for a moment when you see one.

Lodge 87 - Lubec - is one of those places where the first morning coffee tastes different. Maybe it's the lake views. Maybe it's knowing you've got nowhere else to be.

Fully equipped kitchen if you fancy cooking. The Lakehouse if you don't. Two dogs welcome. Sleeps four. Parking included.

Sometimes the best breaks are the ones where you actually switch off.

Peaceful doesn't quite cover it. You're close enough to Beverley for convenience, far enough out that the only noise is birds and the occasional splash from the lakes.

Lodge rentals if you want to test it. Purchase options if you've already decided. Either way, the restaurant's open and the lakes are stocked.

Walkers Retreat has been one of our rental lodges for a while now. Which tells you something about how well it works.

Lodge 91 is now available to buy at £125,000. Two bedrooms (one double, one twin), sleeps four. Private hot tub, wraparound deck that's bigger than most, and views straight out over the Boating Lake. It's homely – the kind of lodge that feels comfortable the minute you walk in.

The south facing wraparound deck is probably the selling point. You've got space to sit with your morning coffee, space for the hot tub without it dominating everything, and still room left over for an actual table and chairs.

It's been popular with guests – couples, small families, people bringing a dog for the weekend. So if you're thinking buy-to-let, there's already proof it rents. Or if you're after your own retreat and want to offset some costs by renting it out when you're not using it, that works too.

Sunday Snapshot

This Sunday we visited the Lakehouse for a full English breakfast and lake views - and it was delicious.

There's something about a proper Sunday morning that just works here. The kind where you're not rushing anywhere, the coffee's hot, and you can actually sit and watch the water for a bit.

The full English was everything it should be. And the view across the lakes while you're eating? That's the bit you don't get at home.

If you're staying with us or own a lodge here and haven't been to The Lakehouse yet, it's worth the walk over. Sundays feel different when you start them like this.
