At the March 2026 Quarterly Communication, Pro Grand Master Jonathan Spence set out a clear and compelling direction for the future: Contemporary Freemasonry.
In a world increasingly shaped by digital connection - but real-world disconnection - Freemasonry has a vital role to play. As an antidote to isolation, loneliness, and the growing pressures on mental health, our values of friendship, integrity, and service have never been more relevant.
We can confirm that the Book of Constitutions will be updated to reflect a more contemporary tone of address, expanding beyond "Brother" to include a range of regionally authentic and culturally relevant alternatives. Accepted terms will include:
𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘃 (London)
𝗖𝘂𝘇 (South London)
𝗠𝗲 𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗙𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁 / 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 / 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮 (East London)
𝗟𝘂𝘃 (Yorkshire / North England)
𝗙𝗮𝗺 (London / Nationwide)
𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗞𝗶𝗱 (Manchester / North West)
𝗗𝘂𝗰𝗸 / 𝗗𝘂𝗰𝗸𝘆 / 𝗠𝘆 𝗢𝗹𝗱 𝗗𝘂𝗰𝗸 (Notts / Derbyshire)
𝗟𝗮 (Liverpool)
𝗟𝗮𝗱 (North / Nationwide)
𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲 (Everywhere)
𝗣𝗮𝗹 (Scotland / North England)
𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗵 (Wales)
Because whether you say Brother, Bruv, or Our Kid... the meaning remains the same.
