Goose Fair is back! One of the largest travelling fairs in Europe, according to Visit Nottinghamshire it has been a regular annual fixture in Nottingham since at least 1284 and has 400+ rides and attractions catering for all ages. It’s not exactly on the lodge doorstep but it’s only a 35-40 minute drive away and well worth a visit.

Did you know Nottingham’s Goose Fair has a fascinating history spanning over 700 years? 🎡

From thousands of geese making their way through the city streets and exotic never-seen-before creatures to the legendary Cheese Riots of 1766, Goose Fair is packed with intriguing stories, unique traditions, unusual treats and unforgettable memories. 🪿🧀

Thought I’d share a few photo’s taken whilst walking my dogs in Sherwood Pines to illustrate the diversity of paths and trails throughout the forest surrounding the lodge. These are just a handful of them - there are many more, some marked, some not. Some are designated purely for cyclists, some purely for walkers and/or runners and some are for shared use which includes horse riders. They stretch for miles. Both Sherwood Pines Visitor Centre where you’ll also find Go Ape, and Vicar Water Country Park are walkable through the forest. The visitors centre is approx 1.6km through the forest from the lodge. Vicar Water is closer to 3.5 miles each way but is worth a visit. By car, it’s 7.4 miles and takes around 17 mins.

Whilst all the main trails officially start and end at the Visitors Centre, you can join many of them within just a few minutes walk/ride from the lodge.
