A LITTLE LUNCH, A LOT OF TEMPTATION, AND A VERY LOVELY FARM SHOP... We popped into Jarrolds Farm Shop at Letheringsett for lunch today, just a few minutes from our office in Holt, and what a beautiful place it is.

The restaurant is tucked inside a gorgeous converted barn, with the sort of menu that makes choosing lunch rather more complicated than it needs to be. Breakfasts, lovely light lunches, hearty seasonal dishes, homemade cakes and very good coffee. And, when the Norfolk weather remembers it's supposed to be summer, there's a beautiful garden courtyard for dining outdoors too.

Then there's the farm shop. Oh, the farm shop. Freshly baked breads, cakes and pastries from Aish Bakery and Bread Source, an artisan delicatessen, a proper traditional butchery, beautiful seasonal fruit and vegetables, and shelves groaning with w**es, spirits and all manner of delicious Norfolk goodies.

Essentially, the sort of place where you pop in for a loaf of bread and emerge forty minutes later with three cheeses, a bottle of something lovely and absolutely no recollection of what you originally came in for.

And just when you think you've finished browsing, there's a Homes & Garden barn through the courtyard, full of even more lovely things you didn't know you needed. Even better, dogs are welcome in the restaurant, which earns them considerable bonus points from us. After all, nobody wants to explain to the dog why everyone else is going out for lunch.

If you're visiting North Norfolk, we'd recommend putting Jarrolds Letheringsett on your list. Come for breakfast, stay for lunch, browse the farm shop and perhaps pick up a few treats to enjoy back at your holiday cottage. And with the beautiful Georgian town of Holt just a few minutes away, you can make a lovely day of it, wandering its independent shops, galleries and pretty streets.

Just don't blame us if you return with rather more shopping bags than you intended.

Meet Enzo, one of our most loyal little guests 🐾 This gorgeous little face has stayed with us at Heidi Corner in Winterton FIVE times already, and loves it so much that he's already booked to come back again next year. Sadly, though, Enzo has had to cancel his Christmas holiday with us this year, as his lovely owner is recovering from being a little poorly, which means Enzo's Christmas holiday is now up for grabs.

A Little Christmas Magic in Norfolk 🌲

There are few places quite as lovely as Norwich in the run-up to Christmas. Its winding cobbled lanes, beautifully dressed shop windows, independent boutiques and historic streets make Christmas shopping feel like something of an occasion.

Alongside familiar favourites such as John Lewis, Norwich has a wonderfully independent spirit. At its heart is Jarrolds, the much-loved department store which was named Best Independent Department Store in both 2024 and 2025. Beyond its doors, the Norwich Lanes are a treasure trove of independent shops, galleries, antique stores and tempting little places to stop for coffee.

For a particularly indulgent afternoon, step inside the magnificent Georgian Assembly House, where festive afternoon tea is served in elegant surroundings. A rather lovely way to spend a few hours, and perhaps the perfect excuse to put down the shopping bags.

There is plenty to enjoy beyond the shops, too. Norwich is a city rich in history and character, with two magnificent cathedrals, a colourful market, peaceful riverside walks and a remarkable Norman castle that has watched over the city for more than 900 years. Its museums and galleries offer a fascinating glimpse into Norfolk’s past, including the story of East Anglia’s legendary Queen Boudicca.

And then, of course, there is the pleasure of escaping the city at the end of the day. Returning to a cosy Norfolk cottage, with an evening stretching ahead, nowhere particular to be and perhaps a little Christmas shopping to wrap.

A few days away in Norfolk at this time of year can be every bit as lovely as a summer holiday. Just with more twinkling lights, afternoon tea and the occasional mulled w**e.
