Two handcrafted, pet-free hideaways in the tiny hamlet of Ellerburn, near Dalby Forest. For couples / solo travellers looking for space to just ‘be’.

This leafy corner of the North York Moors is made for slow days, forest wanderings & dark starry skies. Wood burning stove. En-suite shower room. Compact kitchen. A welcome pack of breakfast treats is included to get you started, along with a basket of wood to use on the wood burner or outdoor fire pit.

Until next year…

A friend and I happened to walk down the driveway at exactly the right moment to see hundreds of swallows and house martins gathering.

It marks a little shift as we move toward autumn.. they were getting ready for their long journey south.. the skies will seem quiet without them.

It’s a beautiful time of year to explore the North York Moors National Park

🚴 🚴‍♂️ Hire a bike from the friendly hike shop Dalby Bike Barn and explore the forest with its changing colours 🍁

We rebuilt the veg raised beds earlier this year (when I say we, I mean the royal we… Mr 🐝 did 100% of the work on this project).
We’ve never seen so many butterflies as 2026 - hasn’t it been wonderful!

A favourite for -
🏰 history & gardens - with the castle, Helmsley Walled Garden, Duncombe park and Rievaulx Abbey just a few mins drive… and of course our favourite, Kirkdale Minster where Mr 🐝 & I were married
🛍️ independent shops & makers - a few of our favourites Milo's Attic Saltbox Gallery Helmsley Studio 573 Paperwing
🥘 great cafes - too many to mention but three we love… Mannion & Co Porter’s Coffee Co The Vinehouse Cafe, Helmsley

Go by bus from Thornton le Dale or it’s just 30 mins by car from here.

When we say we’re tucked away in a leafy valley… we really mean it.

Hidden in the tiny hamlet of Ellerburn, this little corner of the North York Moors National Park is a place for slow mornings, birdsong and star-filled nights.

Swallows of Ellerburn 🖤

I had to stop the car (briefly blocking the only road in and out of the village!) because I’d never seen anything like this before.

Dozens of swallows all over the road.

Nature has a wonderful way to make you pause for a moment, don’t you think..
