New Project | Talbot Gardens, Barne Barton

We’re pleased to be delivering the soft landscaping works for the latest phase of Sanctuary’s regeneration project at Talbot Gardens, Barne Barton, Plymouth.

The wider development is transforming the area with the construction of high-quality new homes for local residents, and our team will be helping to create the green spaces that bring the development to life.

Our works will include:

✅ Tree, shrub and hedge planting
✅ Turfing and grass seeding
✅ Soil improvement and mulching

Well-designed landscaping plays an important role in creating attractive, sustainable communities, and we’re looking forward to seeing this development take shape over the coming months.

Thank you to Sanctuary for the opportunity to be involved in another project that will have a lasting impact on the local area.

Applications are in, and we're delighted to announce that 11 candidates have been selected to interview for our 2026 apprenticeship programme.

With four places available and 148 applications received, getting to this stage is a real achievement - so well done to everyone who made the shortlist.

Interviews will start at the end of the month and we're looking forward to meeting you all. Whatever the outcome, we hope you come away having learned something and feeling proud of how far you've got.

Good luck from the whole YGS team.

May was a month of progress, preparation and plenty of variety across the business.

One of the highlights was seeing areas of Sherford now established and thriving. Having worked on the development for around 15 years, it’s rewarding to look back and see how these landscapes have matured over time and become part of the community.

Alongside ongoing works at Sherford, the team completed natural Devon hedge mix planting, recreational turf restoration, compost deliveries, whip stock management and site preparation for future turf installations, all while working through some exceptionally warm conditions.

We also invested time in training and development, with members of the team undertaking digger and dumper training, helping us continue to build skills, maintain standards and support safe working practices across our projects.

From established landscapes to new beginnings, every stage plays its part.

A big thank you to the entire team for another productive month.

You won’t see most of this once it’s finished…

We’ve been installing tree pits at Sherford using the TreeParker® system, supplied by Green-tech Ltd - including root barriers, crate systems and soil backfilling to give the trees the best possible start.

Not the most visible part of the job, but one that really matters long-term 🌱

Progress taking shape at Sherford

We’ve recently completed the block paving path and boundary wall, and have now started the soft landscaping around this open space.

More updates to follow as this develops 🌱

It’s always appreciated when clients come back with great feedback.

“Your team did a fantastic job - we’re really happy with everything, thank you.”

A great result for the client and a reflection of the team’s work on site.

A steep, engineered bank with erosion matting in place - not an area where traditional seeding would be reliable.

We’ve completed a hydroseeding project at Prince Maurice Road for BJP Developments, giving the slope the coverage it needs to establish properly.

Hydroseeding is a spray-applied mix of seed, mulch and nutrients, helping with:
• Faster, more even growth
• Moisture retention
• Erosion control
• A stronger, healthier finish

Looking forward to seeing this establish over the coming weeks.

Mental Health Awareness Week this year focuses on action.

For us, that’s not about big statements it’s about what’s in place day to day.

• working in green spaces
• keeping sites safe and well organised
• making sure people have the right support around them

That’s why we’ve taken action at YGS by introducing an Employee Assistance Programme for our team and their families, alongside sharing a simple guide with small everyday things that can help support wellbeing.

It’s just noticing when someone’s not quite themselves and taking a moment to check in.

Getting ready to start works at Nansledan, working with CG Fry & Son as part of the wider Duchy of Cornwall development.

A full landscaping package including planting, wildflower areas, turfing and fencing - all contributing to a growing community.

Looking forward to getting started.

From bare ground to planted

Tree and whip planting is now in place by the bridge connecting Phase 2D to Phase 3 at Sherford, alongside new barrier fencing to protect the area as it establishes.

The planting helps soften the space visually, while also creating a natural barrier around the culvert entrance - combining practical protection with longer-term landscape impact.
