Ever wondered how our shepherd hut Dynamite got its name? 🧨

For over 200 years this was a working limestone quarry, and when hand tools weren’t enough to shift the rock, the quarrymen used dynamite to do the rest. You can still see the marks of all that work in the walls today.

After the quarry closed in the early 1970s, nature slowly took it back. Now it’s birdsong where there used to be blasting.

Halloween is this Saturday and we’re open as usual all day, with hot food and drinks from the morning until the evening.

Then at 6:30pm we have our lantern walk and ghost story. We’ll set off with lanterns around the quarry and share the story of the White Lady.

It’s free to attend. So, wrap up warm, walk down if you can and come and spend Halloween with us. 🔥🎃

Half term’s here and if you’re looking for a few days away with the family, we’ve got the perfect place.

We’re tucked inside a historic limestone quarry, with rock walls on one side and Hooe Lake and the South West Coast Path on the other. It’s the kind of place where the kids can explore all day, and when you want a change of scenery, Plymouth is only a short drive away.

Hot showers, a camper’s kitchen, indoor washing up and your own picnic bench and BBQ with each of our shepherd huts mean you can keep it simple without roughing it.

On Thursday 5th November, we’re lighting a community bonfire in the car park by the lake, and everyone’s welcome to join us. Nothing too fancy, think toasted marshmallows, toffee apples, hot chocolate and a cosy fire to chat around.

Wrap up warm, bring the family and come and say hello. We’ll get going from 6 pm and will light the bonfire at 7 pm.

There won’t be any parking available that evening, as the bonfire is taking over the car park. So pull on your boots and walk down to us. It’s all part of the fun, and it means more room around the fire for everyone to mingle.

Autumn is a lovely time for a midweek stay here. The weather’s still holding, the evenings are drawing in just enough for a proper fire pit night and the coast path’s at its best with the light and season starting to change.

Joe is heading to Nepal with three others to attempt a Guinness World Record, the highest altitude sail ever recorded, over 5,000 metres above sea level.

It’s all in aid of the Pahar Trust Nepal, raising money to rebuild a school in Gorkha that still serves 270 children after being destroyed in the 2015 earthquake, alongside schools hit by recent floods and landslides. The team are covering their own costs, so every penny raised goes straight to the school, and donations are currently being matched pound for pound by the Clarkson Foundation, up to £50,000.

The school run might be back, but that doesn’t mean weekends away are off the cards.

Muddy boots, fire pits lit, kids finding their own kind of fun outdoors, whatever the weather.

We’ve got tents and shepherd huts both available, so there’s plenty of time for a few more cosy adventure evenings before winter sets in.
