🥾🦭 Seals, cliff tops... and peacocks?! 🦚

Not only do you get dramatic, sweeping views across Robin Hood’s Bay, but if you look down towards the sea wall and rocks below, you’ll almost always spot the local seal colony bobbing in the water or resting on the shore!

And to top it all off, you might even bump into a peacock or two wandering around the grounds near Raven Hall Hotel!

Did you know Scarborough has SO much incredible history hidden in plain sight?

Next time you take a stroll along Marine Drive between North and South Bay, make sure to look down at the "Porthole in Time" plaques along the sea wall! They reveal some truly mind-blowing facts about our town.

Here are 5 of our absolute favourites:

1️⃣ The Titanic Connection: Scarborough-born 6th Officer James Moody took the famous "Iceberg, straight ahead" call and heroically helped others into lifeboats before going down with the ship. Plus, Titanic shipbuilder Edward Harland was also born here!

2️⃣ Britain’s Original Seaside Resort: Scarborough officially became Britain's first seaside resort after spa waters were discovered in the 1620s. Bathing machines were on the beach by 1735!

3️⃣ World-Record Monster Fish: In 1932, Colonel Edward Peel caught a world-record 798lb (362kg) bluefin tuna using a rod and line from a small rowing boat right off our coast!

4️⃣ Lifeboat Pioneers: Scarborough launched its first lifeboat in 1801—23 years before the national RNLI was even formed!

5️⃣ The Real Scarborough Fair: In 1253, King Henry III granted a Royal Charter for an annual 45-day summer fair. It became the biggest fair in Western Europe and inspired the world-famous ballad!

✨Six months today! ✨

It’s hard to believe that six months ago today, I moved into The Phoenix Guest House and began what has been such an exciting and rewarding new chapter.

Looking back over the past six months, I genuinely appreciate everyone who has supported me along the way. To my friends and family, thank you for believing in me, encouraging me and being there from the very beginning. ❤️

A special thank you also goes to my fellow local guest house owners, who have made me feel so welcome and part of the local hospitality community. Your friendliness, advice, support and willingness to share your experiences have meant a great deal to me as I’ve found my feet.

And, of course, a huge thank you to all of the wonderful guests who have chosen to stay at The Phoenix. It has been a real pleasure meeting so many of you, hearing about your visits and adventures, and hopefully helping to make your stay an enjoyable and memorable one.

Your support, kind words and encouragement have made these first six months incredibly special, and I’m truly grateful to every single person who has played a part in it.
