Am I just easily distracted, or incredibly lucky to be surrounded by wildlife? 😊

Sitting in the office this afternoon trying to get some work done, when this visitor arrived at the feeder.

It spent ages pecking away, then suddenly stopped and just sat there staring. We exchanged looks for quite a while and I couldn’t decide whether it had fallen asleep or was simply judging me from the feeder!

Eventually it seemed to decide I wasn’t much of a threat and went back to its tea.

Mind you, that’s probably another debate altogether… is it tea or lunch where you come from? 😄

One of the things I love most about Field House Farm is that you never quite know what will turn up outside the window.

Any bird experts know what species it is? Is it a young woodpecker?

While trying to get the new camera notifications working, I had two unexpected volunteers helping me test it. These two pigeons spent quite a while on the branch next to the owl box, seemingly looking to upgrade their home!

One appeared quite interested, then the second arrived and decided it wanted an even closer look.

They sat there studying the box for a while before suddenly seeming to realise it might not actually be vacant...

Needless to say, both made a very swift departure! 😂🐦💨

Whether they heard something or saw something, I'll never know, but they definitely decided the owl box wasn't the property for them! 🦉🏠

Latest from the owl box... 🦉

Unfortunately my old CCTV camera finally gave up, which is why there haven't been any owl updates recently. The good news is that I've now got a new camera installed, so hopefully there will be plenty more to come!

This evening one of the owls popped out of the box for a stretch and a look around before heading back inside. As I'm writing this, the other owl has just returned with a meal, which is always a reassuring sight.

It's lovely to see activity around the box again, and I'll keep you posted with any further developments. 🦉 I have cut the video short as the owl was just stood there for about 5 minutes … maybe needed a rest from sitting on some eggs?

I think Half Pint has forgotten how old she is! 🤣

She's been hanging out with the youngsters and now she's tearing around the field trying to keep up with them. Safe to say she's having a great time!

This made me smile the other day. 😊

If you watch carefully, you’ll spot a little badger-faced sheep happily leaping about — that’s Half Pint.

This is the first time I’ve ever seen her do this, and it feels quite special. Years ago, Half Pint was a very poorly lamb and, to be honest, we weren’t sure how things would turn out for her. Last year I bred from her for the first time and she had a little ewe lamb called Dinky. We had to top Dinky up with milk because Half Pint wasn’t producing enough herself.

Fast forward to this year, and Half Pint has produced a strong, healthy lamb all on her own. In fact, her lamb is doing so well that we can barely get near her!

Seeing Half Pint looking so fit, healthy and full of life that she’s skipping around the field really is a lovely feeling. Sometimes it’s the little things that make all the hard work worthwhile. ❤️🐑

Noticed this beautiful Great Spotted Woodpecker this morning while I was hanging the washing out 😊

I’ve been spotting so many different birds recently around Field House Farm. I’ll try and upload a few more over the next few weeks!

Think this might be a lapwing? 😊

We’ve noticed them around quite a lot recently, so I’m hoping it is, as they’re another bird on the UK red list.

I’ll try and get a video of their amazing zig-zag flight at some point if I can 😁

Cleaning the Honey Pod and suddenly heard an aeroplane overhead… ✈️

By the time I managed to grab my phone and start filming, it was just the tail end disappearing — but wow! One of those moments that makes you stop what you’re doing 😊

Stuart came in earlier and asked if I’d been watching the owl cam… and just WOW — there are TWO owls! 🦉🦉

I’ve extracted a short video clip because it was too lovely not to share. Moments like this are exactly why we love Field House Farm so much — the wildlife here is just incredible ❤️

Nature at its very best.
