There is something rather lovely about September in the Highlands.

The children are back at school, the roads are quieter and the first hints of autumn colour are beginning to appear. There is still plenty of daylight too, making it a wonderful time to get out and explore.

Perhaps drive through the spectacular scenery of Glen Nevis, take a boat trip on Loch Ness from Fort Augustus or head west to discover beautiful beaches such as Traigh and Camusdarach.

You could explore the dramatic ruins of Urquhart Castle, visit the Glenfinnan Monument and enjoy a picnic beside Loch Shiel, or head to Oban for fish and chips by the harbour.

Then come back to your cosy lodge at Burnbank, put the kettle on and settle down with a hot drink after a day out exploring.

Beautiful Loch Treig.

You may have heard of Loch Treig due to the heartwarming and inspiring BBC documentary 'The Hermit of Treig' telling the story of Ken Smith who has lived in a secluded spot on the side of this stunning loch for 40 years.

You must take a walk to the loch yourself as it truly beautiful. With no road running along the loch, the peace is wonderful. The only sounds are of the water, birds and the rumbling of the occasional train passing by on the other side.

Although it must be a hard way of life, and not one we would all choose, you'll appreciate why Ken Smith built his home in this stunning area.
