Peas harvested in 2026 and Stephen explains more …

“My first attempt at combining peas, after having moved winter beans around the farm for the last 3 years. Peas are a break crop in the rotation and they are also a legume meaning that they produce their own nitrogen from the atmosphere, making them a low cost input crop.”

He adds: “Amazingly, the peas are being harvested at between 12% and 13% moisture, meaning we will save a week’s worth of time not having to dry them and there will be no gas requirements, important in a year with tight margins.”

On the yield? “It is currently looking at a little over 3t/ha, which is ok, but production has definitely been affected by the very dry weather.”

We hope you like the video and photos showing how it was done.

Such joy from simple pleasures … the natural harvest across the fields and hedgerows on the farm.

Stephen describes the damson bushes laiden with so many fruits “the bows are breaking”.

“Apples, rowan berries, hazelnuts and our wild bird seed & flower mixes” adding: “The dogs love hoovering up the fallen damsons up the Cuplahills archway.”

And the final photo?

A beautiful autumn wildflower bouquet: “We picked these to make button holes for Freddie and I for Mum’s wedding today.”

Very special.

Wheat harvest 2026 safely cut and stored. Here’s Stephen with an update …

“Remarkably, most of the crop was harvested at 13-14% moisture. That has never happened at Cuplahills before and demonstrates just how much our climate has changed.

The dry crop offers a much-needed opportunity to save time and money using the grain drier to dry the grain to below 15% moisture.

The crop seemed to yield pretty well, the sample looked good. Around 1/3rd of the crop is already sold at £205/t.

With war disruption in Ukraine and Russia and a major El Nino expected to affect large parts of the world’s climate this year, there is a good chance wheat prices will rise.

Next job will see the wheat stubble cultivated and a green cover crop established to soak up nutrients, put roots in the soil over winter and provide a cover for wildlife.”

Why not come and stay at the farm? Enjoy a break in our luxury lodges and explore all that’s on offer around Cuplahills and this stunning corner of Scotland.

Here’s Stephen just before harvesting our wheat - standing in one of our wild birdseed plots brimming with clover, radishes and sunflowers.

Beyond the video, a few snaps from our ponds - alive with wildlife including stunning dragonflies. These didn’t exist on the farm until we built the run of ponds - all part of our conservation work to help sustain Cuplahills.

Important tractor repair job!

Wheel reattached and aligned (new hole drilled through axle, washer deployed and split pin installed).

Lower bucket holding pins secured with grippy washer things (ancient spare parts found at the steading) to prevent young hands detaching the bucket and slowing work progress in the woodchip pit.

New bolt with integral rubber lock nut installed and tightened to stop unsafe and unexpected bucket detachment during operations (the bolt offers a safety upgrade).

Tractor tested … and returned to work at the Cuplahills play park next to our holiday lodges!

Next service? Due at the conclusion of the busy summer holidays and harvest period.

Come and enjoy a holiday on our working farm - a break for all ages and seasons.

On a recent summer’s eve … catching up with Stephen at the lodges.

Each lodge is slightly different in decor: all have an en-suite master double and two twin rooms that share a bathroom (a bath with a powerful overhead drench shower). If required, the twins can be made into a double.

There’s a large, bright and spacious living/dining area with a very well equipped kitchen, dining for six plus two large leather sofas, flat screen TV with DVD.

Floor-to-ceiling windows maximise the breath-taking views towards St Andrews across the Eden Valley – with sliding doors opening onto your own deck to enjoy alfresco dining and a sundowner!

Stephen explains some of the work at Cuplahills - introducing bee hives to help pollinate flowers that are being grown in wild flower margins together with apple trees that we hope will help to produce cider in the years to come.

Renewable power from Cuplahills - our winter forage rye now harvested and on its way to nearby Peacehill. It is fed to their bio-digester to create gas for the mains network.
