One thing we’ve noticed this season… the second we get the camera out, you all scarper! 😂

But we promise, we LOVE you in our photos (if you’re happy to be, of course ❤️)

We absolutely love whoever this lovely chap is. He initially made a dash for cover, but once we explained, he came back and gave us this absolute gem of a shot 🥹

A little reminder that the best moments here are often the unplanned ones ❤️

Brewed in the Blackdown Hills since 1990, Otter Brewery is a family-run Devon original, and there's a lovely local connection in every pint. The water used to brew it comes straight from the head springs of the River Otter.⁠

And that gorgeous deep mahogany colour? Expect malty aromas, hints of cherry and spice, plenty of fruity character and a satisfyingly dry finish.⁠

Otter Ale uses Maris Otter malt, a well-known British brewing barley variety, alongside English Fuggles and Challenger hops.

Its 4.5% ABV, with a rich mahogany appearance, malty aromas, hints of cherry and spice, complex fruit flavours and a dry finish.
⁠..and we do love a little bit of local flavour here at Turf ❤️

Our last week of the season and oh my goodness! Thank you so much for your support, for heading out in all weathers and particularly braving storm Austen this weekend...what a season!⁠

So this week...we are open Thursday to Sunday, usual 10-6 hours and on Sunday then same, from 10 a.m. with the kitchen closing for one last time at 3 p.m!⁠

Change your Sunday plans, head our way, come say hi and enjoy the last hit on our Autumn menu, before we reappear in Spring (dates TBC ❤️)

Little turn in the weather 🤪 The first named storm of the season, Storm Austen, might send you heading for inside so we've got the cosy covered! Fires are on, tables are laid and we're ready to take this on!

Did you know that Turf wasn't just built somewhere random?

It was built here because this was where Exeter's canal met the sea.

The Exeter Ship Canal itself goes all the way back to 1566, making it one of Britain’s earliest purpose-built canals. But by the 1820s, Exeter wanted to get larger vessels further inland.

Engineer James Green extended the canal south to Turf, creating the new Turf Lock, which opened in 1827. That meant ships could enter the canal directly from the Exe estuary rather than relying on the older arrangements.

The Turf Hotel was built alongside the new lock to accommodate the lock keeper and crews of vessels using the canal.
