Had a lovely walk home along the road from the Mangersta Shieling Open Day yesterday. This is one of my favourite rock faces on the Isle of Lewis. Any explanation of the rock types on the cliff are very welcome as I’m not a geologist. I just like rocks 😀.

A few moments in a good day. Walking the dogs up the road to the mast, gazed dreamily at cloud formations reflected in a lochan with sunlight creating constellations around the bog bean leaves, then out on Loch Roag to catch some mackerel for dinner. Spotted a large number of eider ducks. Back home to Two collie dogs watching mackerel being bbq’d at sunset, and then a big moonrise. Aye…

The Mangersta Shieling is one of the buildings in Lewis open to the public for the Outer Hebrides Doors Open Days Festival.

Please come along on Saturday 5th September to have a look at the renovated shieling.

The peat-fired stove will be lit and light refreshments served. Your guides will provide information on the traditional use of shielings and the work of the Trust in restoring this important part of island heritage.

The shieling is a 15 minute walk across open moorland, requiring suitable footwear. Directions will be posted at the car parking area(the parking spot for the Mangersta sea stacks) and there will be a guide to help at 11am, 12noon, 2pm and 3pm.
