History took flight on Windermere ✈️

Back in 1911, Waterbird, commissioned by Edward Wakefield, became the first hydro-aeroplane to successfully take flight in Britain.

More than a century later, we had the incredible opportunity to watch its replica take to the skies once again, alongside the iconic Husky seaplane, all from the shores of Langdale Chase.

A spectacular moment, and a little piece of aviation history brought back to life over Windermere.

As we gently move into to autumn, our strawberry dessert offers a final celebration late summer.

Showcasing locally sourced strawberries alongside delicate notes of celery, coriander, and wasabi, finished with milk foam and strawberry meringue.

A lingering taste of summer, savoured into September.

We spent the morning with Alex, our gardener, as he prepared new propagations of Salvia ‘Cerro Potosi’.

Watching him work, you realise how much of the garden begins with moments like this, gardening is an art that’s precise and full of intention.

Each cutting is a promise of future blooms, ready to brighten the paths and terraces around the hotel.

In our newly renovated bar, Becca brings the Bramble mocktail to life.

A familiar favourite, made lighter and brighter for summer days.

She tops it with mint gathered straight from the garden.

Sip it on the terrace as Windermere drifts quietly by.

There’s nothing quite as breathtaking as watching a solar eclipse from the shores of Langdale Chase.

With sunshine shimmering across Windermere and a spectacular sunset to round off the evening, guests were treated to an unforgettable evening in one of the Lake District’s most extraordinary settings.

Moments like these are what make Langdale Chase so special.

Alex has been tending something special at the entrance to the terrace.

Pots planted to echo the beautiful colours and textures of the borders around them.

They are designed to slow you down for just a moment...

A small welcome, before Windermere opens up in front of you.

We joined Trevor, our gardener and wildlife enthusiast, for a walk through our wildflower meadow.

He showed us how the area encourages bees, butterflies and birds to settle right beside the hotel, offering a sanctuary for lakeside wildlife.

Enjoy a wander here and sit for a quiet moment. It’s a calm little escape just beyond the terrace.
