Vijaya Dashami (Dashain) – Celebrate in Barang Village, Nepal

Vijaya Dashami, commonly known as Dashain, is Nepal’s longest and most widely celebrated festival. Honoring Goddess Durga, it symbolizes the victory of good over evil and celebrates family, faith, blessings, and togetherness.

The festival begins with Ghatasthapana, when families sow barley seeds to grow jamara. Fulpati marks an important stage of the celebrations, followed by Maha Ashtami and Maha Navami, dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga.

The tenth day, Vijaya Dashami, is especially meaningful as elders put red tika and jamara on younger family members and bless them with happiness, good health, prosperity, and long life. Dashain is a beautiful time for family reunions, traditional feasts, and celebrating Nepal’s rich cultural heritage.

At this event, we’re excited to share a side of Nepal that often goes beyond the Himalayas—our living culture, welcoming communities, and the everyday beauty of village life.

Through our work with Barang Village Community Homestay and Himalayan Journey, we focus on community-based tourism that creates real connections between travelers and local communities. Our goal is simple: make tourism more meaningful and more beneficial for the people who host it.

Two years ago, we had a dream.

A simple but powerful dream — to bring digital education to the children of Barang Village. To open a window to the world beyond the mountains, and give our children the tools to shape their own future.

We started… but like many meaningful journeys, it wasn’t easy. We faced challenges, pauses, and moments of uncertainty. But the dream never left us.

And today, we begin again.

With hope in our hearts and a clearer path ahead, we have officially restarted our computer classes. Twice a week, our children will now sit in front of computers — not just to learn technology, but to discover new possibilities, new ideas, and new confidence.

This is not just a class.
It is a seed we are planting. 🌱

A seed of knowledge.
A seed of opportunity.
A seed for a brighter future.

Watching these young minds take their first steps into the digital world is something truly special. It reminds us why we started — and why we will continue, no matter what.
