Before the house wakes up, I like to walk up to the stargazing platform with a cup of coffee and watch the sun come over the hills. Beta usually comes with me, though he is more interested in the chickens than the view.
This time of year the light arrives early and soft. It moves across the valley, then the garden, then the young olive trees we planted around the platforms in July. They are small still, but every spring morning they look a little more settled.
By the time I walk back down, Clark has the kitchen going and breakfast is not far off. That quiet hour at the top of the hill is something I wish every guest could see at least once.
If you are thinking about a spring escape in Marlborough, the whole villa is yours for your stay - six suites, twelve acres, and mornings like this one.
