A glimpse of the northern Coromandel almost 100 years ago. 🌿

Taken in the 1920s, this photograph looks north across Torehina Bay towards Waitete Beach from Waitete Bay Road near Colville.

It’s a beautiful reminder of just how long cars have been travelling these winding coastal roads and looking out across the same bays we know today.

If you're staying at Anglers Lodge, take the road north and explore a little more of the coastline, there’s plenty of history tucked between these bays (including giant fossilised oysters... but that's a story for another day).

If you're searching for the Coromandel you remember… you've found it.

Quiet bays. Native bush. Friendly locals.

The sound of tūī in the morning and waves at night.

This part of the Coromandel isn't about rushing from one attraction to the next. It's about slowing down enough to enjoy where you are.

And that's exactly why people keep finding their way back.

School Holidays are coming up, book your trip back in time now. https://www.anglers.co.nz/

A little piece of Coromandel history 🏡

If you’re heading north from Anglers Lodge, the Colville General Store is one of those places that feels very much part of the landscape.

In modern times, Colville has been a small, relatively isolated farming and coastal community, and the local store has long played an important role, somewhere to pick up supplies without making the long trip back to Coromandel Town, catch up with neighbours and hear what’s happening locally.

Today, the store in an iconic stop on a trip north and a little reminder of the small communities that have shaped this remote end of the Coromandel Peninsula. It's a great place to stop and grab an ice cream and a few souvenirs if you're visiting for the first time.

If you’re staying at Anglers Lodge, it’s well worth adding Colville to a day exploring north.

This photo was taken in 1980 by Chris Burles, and it's one of our favourites.
