The Dunedin Night Shelter is situated at 18 Lees Street, Dunedin, and has the night shelter office, a store room, several bedrooms and kitchen & dining area. We run on a paid Night Shelter Manager with trained volunteers staying overnight to supervise the guests and offer support during their stay. We rely heavily on the generosity of these people and value their contribution. There is no doubt that there are homeless people in Dunedin every day and night. Regardless of circumstances, homeless people usually have two things in common: they have run out of options and their needs are urgent. To meet that urgent need the Trust operates a Night Shelter that provides dinner, bed and breakfast. All meals are supplied by various church groups. All meals are frozen and reheated when required. The shelter is open 7 nights a week from 6pm - 9am. We encourage our clients to be as self reliant as possible and offer accommodation for up to 3 nights. Since starting in 2007, we have provided over 1400 bed nights of emergency accommodation. Since mid 2011 the demand has increased and we are presently averaging 60+ bed nights a month.
