The sap is flowing, and the crew is out there nipping off the last bud on each cane.

We call that tipping.

Tipping cuts down the hormone levels in that end bud, which helps ease the apical dominance. The goal is that once that last bud is gone, the buds lower down start to pop, since the vine thinks it needs to repair its canopy after being damaged.

It’s our first real sign of spring and a friendly reminder that we’re about to get busy!

Its pretty awesome to see staff like Liam come full circle here at Cultivate!

Liam and his partner, Kyra, have been helping us look after these vines for a whole season, and we are so grateful for their positive contributions.

It is often the case that when staff join us, they stay much longer than intended, as the organic environment, great team atmosphere, and amazing people make working in our kiwifruit orchards truly memorable.

Have a working experience worth telling your mates about back home and come join us at [email protected].
And hey, after a whole year of helping them grow, of course they want a hug! 🥝🌿✨

Winter pruning in our Organic Orchards is finished and the orchards are officially set for spring.

Massive appreciation to the crew who helped us get every canopy pruned, tied down, and ready for the season ahead.

Next up: budburst, sunshine, and the start of another busy 🌏 chapter... Spring!

Our team is deep in winter‑pruning training at the moment, learning everything from wood selection to cane spacing to achieving the perfect canopy fill. It’s a lot to take in, but they’re doing incredibly well.

Here, Mica is showing us exactly the bay standard we’re aiming for — she’s laying down the foundation for a productive season ahead and absolutely nailing it.

Another organic harvest done and dusted. Such a satisfying moment seeing the last bins roll out. Massive thanks to our crew for bringing it home with care, teamwork, and efficiency.
