NPGHS Celebrating our staff Milestones 🎉

As we start Term 4, NPGHS continue to recognise the staff who reach service milestones. Its a chance to reflect on the collective experience, knowledge, and care that sits within our school. We are deeply grateful for their loyalty and ongoing contribution, and we are fortunate to benefit from their wisdom every day.

Milestones celebrated in September and October:
5 years - Amber Sigvertsen (Receptionist/Administrator)
10 years - Nik Bouterey (Teacher of Technology)
10+ years - Grant Robinson (Teacher of Science)
20 years - Melissa Cumberledge (HR Co-ordinator)
20 years - Lisa Simpson (Head of Department Drama)

25+ years - Pam Sargent (Hostel Supervisor extraordinaire) The backbone of the hostel. Our go to when we have no clue what to do next and when our wāhine are feeling unwell during the day.

NPGHS had a fantastic group of speakers for our 2026 NPGHS Speech Competition! Students shared their ideas on topics including women in sport, “what if?”, taekwondo, climate change and AI.

A huge congratulations to all our students for stepping up and having their voices heard.

It’s that time of the year again…. It’s the end of another term.

Where has the year gone? It”ll be the Christmas holidays before we know it.

In true Scotlands hostel style we have numerous items left behind. We will have them in the library at the start of term 4.

Good evening Scotlands hostel family

This week is Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week)
Under the theme Ake, Ake, Ake – A Forever Language, the 2026 focus is Te Reo Towns - a celebration of the communities who have kept te reo Māori alive, and an invitation for all of Aotearoa to help it flourish into the future.
Te Reo Towns is about recognising the many communities already leading the way, while encouraging others to take the next step. It celebrates the kura, sports clubs, businesses, marae, whānau and communities who have woven te reo into daily life for generations. it is about building a future where te reo Māori is normal, visible, and valued everywhere.

Tonight we embraced Te Wiki o te Reo Māori with 2 of our juniors, Amaia and Honey-Leigh blessing our food with a karakia kai and the wonderful Cater plus team preparing a delicious hangi, with all the trimmings and steam pudding.

Spring has sprung at the hostel… those crisp mornings with fresh nights are finally upon us.

Recently one of our amazing Scotlands hostel Nanas Dale, was awarded
The Caltex Good Sport award at the recent 2026 NZSS Premier Girls’ tournament.

Reading through the nominations, there were numerous comments relating to Dales commitment towards the New Plymouth Girls High School Fist XI as she went above and beyond as their manager, cook, tournament mum and number one supporter. Dale wasn't just focused on the wins, but instead she cared deeply about each and every person in the team. She also made sure she went to all of the girls games and updated the parents who couldn't be in Taupō. Her genuine love for the game and her willingness to help anyone who needs it, is what makes Dale amazing.

We also think Dale is wonderful and appreciate all that she does for our hostel and our girls.
