Spotted at the bottom of the falls, considering a walk on the beach.

Tuna (freshwater eels) can actually travel over wet ground, absorbing oxygen through their skin while it stays moist. Pretty clever.

Clean water, shady stream banks and room to move all help look after them. Worth remembering who else calls this place home.

Rabbits help themselves to pasture and native plants. Good at looking innocent, less good at leaving things to grow.

If rabbit pie is on the menu, we can point you in the right direction.

Time to see a bit more of Blue Duck Station?

Bookings are now open for this season’s Blue Duck Station Adventure Walk. This self-guided experience takes you deep into the Station over three days and 30 km of ridgelines, native bush, river country and backcountry tracks.

You’ll stay in two of our lodges, eat well, carry less (we’ll move your bags between lodges), and use the Great Hikes App and clear trail markers to find your way. There’ll be big views, a bit of mud and some great stories to take home.
It’s a proper backcountry adventure, without having to lug three days’ worth of gear on your back.

And now there’s a book for it, too! Wander has just hit the shelves, featuring 26 privately hosted walks around New Zealand (including ours) in the Private Walks NZ section of the Great Hikes App.

Earthquake near the top of our valley a couple of hours ago.
Civil defense have put out a notification.
Thank you for the messages of concern coming in.
Early reports, some broken glass, stuff coming off shelves.
Now it’s daylight, the Blue Duck team are just heading out to have a look around.
First thing is to see if any powerlines are down or other dangers. Check on all family, guests, and team.
If there is any major damage, we will let you know.
