Our own Simon Beaton explained the intricacies of Guitars to us last friday. Who knew how complex wood selection was. His collection included at least one made from swamp kauri which was likely 10 to 50000 yrs old. He has also chosen one with a wider neck, to future proof against arthritis. The collection he had with him contained about 4 guitars. His knowledge of construction was extensive and held our attention easily.

K Valley Community Planting

Help plant 5000 native trees and shrubs in the biggest urban wetland reserve in Aotearoa.

· When: 9.30, Sunday 20th September

· Where: lower end of Marshall Ave, Greerton (parking available).

· How: bring spades, gloves, drinking water, boots and hi-viz if you have any. (Holes already dug)

Soak up the tranquility of the valley, meet like-minded passionate citizens and get a sense of the history, ecology and recreational possibilities of this jewel of Tauranga City.

Another fascinating meeting this morning. Filled with friendly Rotarians, a few guests, and a great view of the sunrise from our venue. Our very interesting speaker today was our own Glenn Dougal, business man, Councillor and long standing Rotarian AI - for beginners. All I can say is: who knew?

Today our guest speaker was Connor Bell Olympian - Discus Paris 2024 - a very impressive and engaging speaker. From a tiny lifestyle block in rural Auckland and a school of 60 pupils to secondary schools in Auckland’s North Shore. Connor described the drive, the dream and the necessary support from family and mentors to achieve the Olympic dream.
Connor is now a fulltime Psychology Student using his experience as a platform for education, storytelling and mentorship working parttime in schools and the wider athletic community.

Today's guest speaker was Rose who is the young person that our club supported to attend the RYLA camp recently (Rotary Young Leadership Award) RYLA is an intensive leadership training program sponsored by Tauranga Sunrise Rotary club. She ran through a number of the activities, which were both physically and mentally challenging - public speaking to high wire activities. The group have set up a Rotoract club that meets regularly and completes volunteer activities at each meet up. She is a very motivated person and highly recommended the week long activity. Photo shows the whole group. They are dressed ready to complete a group task, as instructed.
