A special thank you to Novo Nordisk, our Silver Partner at Empath Conference & Awards 2026. 💜

Beyond supporting the first edition of Empath, Novo also contributed to the conversation on stage with a topic that is both highly relevant and deeply connected to people’s real experiences.

Irina Ionescu, Marketing & Strategy Senior Director, Novo, presented “Understanding the attitudes, mindsets and influences in the weight loss journey”, sharing insights from a study conducted in Romania and bringing a research-driven perspective on the complexity of the weight loss journey: from attitudes and motivations to the influences that shape people’s choices and behaviors.

It was a strong example of how research can help organizations move beyond assumptions and build a deeper, more nuanced understanding of people, especially in areas where personal experience, health and behavior are closely connected.

Novo also brought an interactive dimension to the conference, giving participants the opportunity to use a smart body-composition scale and bringing the conversation around health and self-understanding into a more tangible, personal experience.

Jane Frost, Chair of the international Empath Awards jury and CEO of MRS UK, opened the Empath Conference on October 22 with a manifesto for what business really needs from research: vital information, not simply growing volumes of data.

Her keynote, “Research on the Edge / Fit for the Future,” focused on the challenges facing the insights industry at a time when technology increasingly promises to think, analyse and act better than humans.

Looking ahead, Jane highlighted four priorities for researchers:

❯ Develop core skills in AI, data and business – you can know more than them.
❯ Prioritise communication and persuasion – every stakeholder speaks a different language.
❯ Focus on empathy and emotional intelligence – allies can be found in unexpected places.
❯ Celebrate excellence through awards.

The Empath Awards represent a first step towards opening up market research in Romania to a new era - one in which rigour is combined with innovation and adaptability, while research remains grounded in its fundamental role: the accurate search for truth and a driver of business growth.

In a world overwhelmed by misinformation, the value of research is not in generating more data, but in identifying the truth that matters and drives growth.

The strongest arguments for research is even more powerful today: a relatively small investment capable of generating an incredible high return for the business.

At Empath Awards 2026, we were honored to recognize Petre Datculescu with the Contribution to Market Research Romania 2026 Award, celebrating a career dedicated to the development of market research in Romania.

His influence can still be felt today, not only through the professionals and generations of researchers shaped by his work, but also through his books.

A career in research leaves its strongest mark when the knowledge it creates continues to travel from one generation to the next.

Value and impact can come from both specialized and full service companies 💜

One of the important conversations at Empath was about the role of specialised research agencies in creating positive change for the client. Sometimes, choosing to go deeper rather than broader is exactly what creates value: sharper expertise, stronger methodological focus, closer client relationships and a clearer point of view.

Catalina Cumpanici, Senior Partner at Mind The Gap Consultancy, and Mihaela Alexandru, Managing Partner at ToKnow, are strong examples of how specialized agencies can create real impact while staying focused on what they do best. Both have been nominated in empath awards, validated by MRS jury.

Because relevance in research is not about how many services you can offer. It is about the quality of the thinking, the depth of understanding and the difference your work can make for clients and their decisions.

Specialisation is not “less”. When it is done well, it becomes a competitive advantage.
