๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ September 11 - We Remember ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

In remembrance of September 11, 2001, Alexandria City offices will be closed on Friday, September 11, 2026.

On this day, we pause to remember the lives lost and honor the courage of the first responders, service members, and everyday citizens who answered the call during and after the attacks.

We also remember the strength, unity, and compassion shown across our nation and within communities everywhere.

May we continue to honor their memory through service, kindness, and care for one another.

We will never forget. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

City offices will reopen for regular business hours on Monday, September 14, 2026.

IDHS' August Disaster Resource Hub is now available. The hub serves as a comprehensive resource center for individuals seeking state and federal assistance and updates related to the severe weather events that began on Aug. 11.

The hub also includes the application for the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF), specifically for Aug. 11 events. Impacted Hoosiers may qualify for emergency aid grants of up to $5,000. This fund is designed to help families secure essential items like clothing and uninsured medical devices while they are displaced from their homes.

โš ๏ธ HEAVY RAIN & SEWER SAFETY NOTICE โš ๏ธ
Due to the heavy rainfall we are currently experiencing, residents may encounter sewer backups or other drainage-related issues. Please keep an eye on your property and watch for signs of a potential backup, including slow drains, sewer odors, or water coming up through floor drains.

๐Ÿšง Please use extra caution while traveling. Heavy rain and increased water flow can cause manhole covers to become loose, displaced, or unset, creating a serious roadway hazard.
Do not approach an open or displaced manhole or attempt to replace the cover yourself. If you notice a displaced manhole cover or similar roadway hazard, please report the location immediately by calling 724-4733.

Our Street Department and Sewage Department are actively working to locate and address these hazards as quickly as possible.
Please use caution around standing water and never drive through flooded roadways or moving water.

๐ŸŸจ Sandbags are also available at the Street Department for residents who may need them. Residents will need to fill the sandbags themselves as needed.

We will continue to monitor conditions and share additional information if conditions worsen or road closures become necessary.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as our crews work to keep our community safe. Please slow down, stay alert, and stay safe!

**ALEXANDRIA UTILITY OFFICE UPDATE**

We sincerely apologize for the recent inconvenience and confusion surrounding the Alexandria Utility Office and customer utility bills.

The Utility Office experienced a roof leak that required the office to close temporarily. After further inspection of the damage, the decision was made to relocate the office back to its former location.

The Alexandria Utility Office will reopen on **Monday, August 3**, at:

๐Ÿ“ **402 West Washington Street**

Unfortunately, the closure occurred at the same time utility bills were beginning to arrive. Customers enrolled in electronic billing may have noticed that detailed billing information was missing from their statements. We understand that this was especially frustrating because the new utility service rates had recently taken effect, and many customers were reviewing their bills to better understand the changes.

During the temporary closure, customers who called the office were also unable to reach staff. We recognize how concerning and frustrating it can be to have questions about your bill and not be able to speak with someone.

In addition to the temporary office closure, we are continuing to experience issues with the electronic billing system. Staff members are working to address these problems and will be available to assist customers when the office reopens.

We sincerely apologize for the lack of communication, the difficulty reaching the office, and the ongoing e-billing issues. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these unexpected circumstances and restore normal service.

๐Ÿ“ฑ **YOUR CHILDโ€™S PHONE IS A WINDOW TO THE WORLD** ๐ŸŒŽ

Phones and apps can help kids learn, connect, and have fun, but they can also expose children to risks such as online predators, cyberbullying, scams, location sharing, and conversations with strangers.

Parents and caregivers can help by staying informed, setting boundaries, checking privacy settings, knowing who their child is communicating with, and keeping the conversation about online safety going.

**The best online safety tool isnโ€™t an app - itโ€™s an ongoing conversation.**

Learn more about online risks, apps parents should know about, and helpful safety tips on the Alexandria Police Department website:

Together, we can help keep our children safe, online and in the real world.
