Thank you to Jeff, Jim and JP2 Risk Management for a fun, useful conversation! The JP2 folks are expert traders and risk managers with a focus on the eastern Corn Belt and it was quite interesting to compare notes on crop size, hedging strategy and farmer perceptions. We’ll do it again soon!

WASDE 10/09/2026:
USDA's October report was bearish for corn: yield jumped 2.7 bu to 181.2 and ending stocks rose 282 million bu to 1.85 billion, well above what the trade expected. Soybeans were mostly steady - yield up 0.3 to 53.1 bu and stocks barely changed at 315 million bu. Wheat stocks edged up to 740 million bu on weaker exports, even as production stays the smallest since 1970. Corn -17, Beans -4, Wheat -6 currently.

Sep 1st Grain Stocks and Wheat Production highlights: Corn stocks above the high end of estimates. Spring wheat production below the low end. Bean/wheat stocks slightly below guessed. Bearish corn, bullish spring wheat, mildly bullish beans. Corn -15 beans +6 Spring Wheat -4 currently.
