Yep. We went on a ghost tour of Blowing Rock. We had a wonderful time. It’s a walking tour hosted by Blowing Rock Walking Tours. They have regular historical tours during the day but….who wants to do that?? We started the evening having an early dinner at Storie Street Grill (our favorite) and ended it with buying fresh apple c***r and apple c***r donuts being sold by a street vendor. They were good. Do yourself a favor and have a little fun while you’re here.

In the last year Mr Fehrway and I have gotten into
hiking. If you know us you know that is a miracle in and of itself. Recently we’ve become enthralled with the Maze at Cone Manor, accessible through Bass Lake. Don’t let the sign fool you….it says 2 miles but there and back it’s 4, then tag on the 1 mile around the lake itself. But, it’s not a difficult walk/climb. Lots of switchbacks, it’s shady and it’s ethereally beautiful. The Apple barn takes you to a different time and space. Just do it 😉.

One of our favorite afternoon trips to do when we are in town is to drive 40 minutes over to a West Jefferson. Easy drive, super cute stores amazing burgers. The town has a ton of murals and you can get yo’self some cheese at the Ashe County Cheese store. Yum.

I’ve mentioned this before but when you come to stay at the home, Sunrise Grill in Boone should be a must go breakfast restaurant on your list. Get the Flankenstein. You’ll thank me. (Famous Toastery is also a fantastic breakfast restaurant in BR)

Mr Fehrway and I have been a bit housebound and decided to go for a jaunt today. We heard that Abingdon, Va (90 minute drive) was cute and worth a day trip. We passed through Tennessee which was fun. However, we made an unplanned visit to Damascus, Va (our route took us straight through downtown) as it has part of the Appalachian Trail running through it. This is a bucket list item, especially for Mr Fehrway. We walked looking for the trail not knowing that we were on the trail and left in frustration for not having found the trail…all the while walking the trail. But…we had fun (???), had a laugh about it later and would recommend. Abingdon wasn’t our favorite but the drive was nice. Pics are from Damascus. I think you should come visit and also not walk the trail while walking the trail like we did. Anyway…I walked a mile on the Appalachian Trail today and have a blister to show for it.

I had some time to myself today so I took a pumpkin decorating class at The Mustard Seed, just a mile from the house. They have so many beautiful things and classes throughout the year they’re worth checking out.

We’re back at the house doing some work and taking in the season. It’s pumpkin time. Do yourself a favor when you come…go down to The Mustard Seed. It’s a wonderful place.

Play a game with us!!! When you come to the house find the Gnome, take a pic of the Gnome and post it on social media, tag Fehrway to Heaven and move the Gnome to another location for the next person to find. Don’t make it too hard! When we get to 50 tags someone will win a free night at the house. Want to play with us?

Well…we’ve left the home for now. 10 days of knitting, painting, rocking on the porch and cleaning. It was fun! We have a fun game coming up so stayed tuned. Until then here are some more pics of just wandering around the area. Come and stay awhile ❤️

Another restaurant recommendation! We tried a place we’ve been wanting to go to for years and loved it. Wonderful service. Beautiful decor (casual elegance at its finest) and an eclectic menu for every palate. Give Storie Street Grill a try when you come.
