River is looking good for the last week of catch & kill season, C&R starts the 14th of November this year, 8-4 Fri-Mon, flies only over the entire park, the whole park essentially becomes zone 2 in the winter. So no fishing in the park, anywhere, from November 1st, until November 14th. The park extends about a mile below the fish cleaning station, off Davis holler is the southern boundary of the park.
Fishing was very good this week even with the rain and the rain did not do anything to the river. It is still running 23CFS so it has not changed and it does not look like it will the rains that are expected or not to be Extremely heavy,It looks like, of course this can always change but right now it looks like we'll be OK all the way to the end of the season. Black woolly buggers, green woolly, buggers and tan woolly buggers caught a lot of fish this last week. We are still getting decent dry fly fishing. Caddis, and blue wing olives are around every day.
Still lots of midge activity, which happens every day so very small dry flies will work, if you can't see what the fish are rising to put a number 22 or a number 24 Adams on the fish they will usually take these.
There are still a lot of fish, taking beetles and ants. They have been eating these for the last three or four months so even though the weather is getting cooler, they are still reacting to these flies, the fish don't know if it's December or if it's July the water temperature never changes so they are looking up for a meal every day.
There were lots of fish caught on mop, flies, egg patterns, and on San Juan worms, the brighter, the better, oranges, chartreuse , & pink all did well.
Black, & brown, Zebra midges, pheasant tails, hares ears, sow bugs & burlaps all worked well this week. The zebra midges in a size 18 were great most of the nymphs we fished were size 16.
Black, skunk, pink, and yellow, spinners worked well all week.
Plastic worms in pink/white, orange/white, pink/yellow, and white were all good this weekend, 2 pound line is still your best bet right now.
Plastic eggs were good, pink, orange, white, & fl. Yellow worked great, the natural fish oil & the hatchery brown eggs did great all week.
Good luck, I'll reopen on the 14th, after the season closes, so yes I'll be here next Thursday and Friday and then close for 13 days.
