Beartooth Pass is temporarily closed due to the snowstorm we're having right now. Do not use map apps to get here. They are not accurate. This shared post lets you know the alternate to Cooke City from the east. Please be flexible with your travel plans.

Doris and Ida Mae, the mama moose and child, have been hanging around town so much lately that we're now considering them to be "locals". Hence, they have been named.

A little earlier than normal this year.

We received the following information from the Yellowstone National Park Service please share with your family and friends.

We wanted to let you know that our crews will begin plowing out of Cooke City next week. We've noticed that vehicles have been parked along the Wyoming side of the road between Pilot Creek and the Stateline. As plowing is scheduled to start—likely Monday afternoon or by Tuesday—we’d greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word. It’s important that vehicles are not parked on the road during this time so the plows can pass safely and efficiently. This will help us avoid any delays and prevent potential damage to parked vehicles.

Thank you for your help in keeping the area clear for our crews.

I saw three moose on my morning stroll today. They have been hanging around town for the last couple weeks. Pretty neat, I would say. If they hang around much longer they're getting names. 😃

Know before you go!!!!! And have fun!!!!!

Get the Avalanche Forecast for February 25 at www.mtavalanche.com

In the past week within our forecast area, there have been 34 avalanches recorded, 6 people caught, 4 partial burials, 2 full burials, and 1 tragic fatality. This was concentrated in the Island Park, Lionhead, Cooke City, and Southern Madison areas with some spill over into the Northern Madison and Northern Gallatin Ranges. New snow is again adding weight to weak layers in the upper 2.5 feet of the snowpack and strong winds are loading slopes.

There is a wide variety of avalanche conditions driven by recent snowfall amounts.

The danger is HIGH at upper-elevations in Cooke City where the most snow fell in the last 30 hours, CONSIDERABLE in Island Park, West Yellowstone, and through the Gallatin and Madison Ranges, and MODERATE in the Bridger Range where the least snow fall in the last couple of days.

📸A rider was caught in an avalanche and deployed their airbag in Blue Creek in the Centennial Mountains of Island Park on Saturday. Thankfully, they were uninjured.
