You can swim in one of the most unique all natural spring-fed pools in Florida at the Kings Bay Lodge in Crystal River, which offers one of the best looks at and experiences of “Old Florida” you’ll find anywhere in the state! Built in 1957 around active natural springs, this rare chlorine-free pool has no regular plumbing, pumps, or harsh chemicals. Fresh spring water rises from below, flows through the pool, and moves out toward the bay, keeping it clear, cool, and naturally refreshing at about 72 degrees year-round. The sandy, rocky bottom, blue crabs and Spanish moss give it the feel of swimming in a spring instead of a hotel pool. The lodge itself began as a Tennessee fishing camp and still keeps that laid-back waterfront feel, with ground-floor efficiency suites, kitchenettes, easy parking, dock access, sunsets, and a location near Crystal River’s parks, shops, restaurants, manatee tours, paddling, scalloping, fishing, diving, and Fort Island Gulf Beach.
