Happy Labor Day from Estes Park! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

Thereโ€™s no better place to spend a long weekend than right here in the mountains. ๐Ÿ’™ From beautiful views over Lake Estes to hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, wildlife watching, downtown shopping and simply slowing down to enjoy the fresh mountain air, weโ€™re pretty lucky to call this place home.

Labor Day may mark the unofficial end of summer, but some of the best weeks in Estes Park are still ahead! September brings beautiful weather, the beginning of fall colors, cooler hiking days and the excitement of elk rut season. ๐ŸฆŒ๐Ÿ‚'

If you havenโ€™t planned your fall mountain getaway yet, now is a great time. Weekdays are quieter, and Estes Park is absolutely beautiful this time of year.

Come stay with us at Estes Mountain Inn and enjoy everything Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park have to offer. ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

๐ŸฆŒ๐Ÿ‚ One of Our Favorite Fall Hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park!

This video was taken in early October last year along the Cub Lake hike, and it's a perfect example of why we love this time of year in Estes Park.

The Cub Lake Trail begins in beautiful Moraine Park, one of Rocky Mountain National Park's best-known areas for seeing and hearing elk during the fall rut. September and October are prime rut months, when elk move into the lower-elevation meadows and the sound of bulls bugling can echo through the valley.

๐Ÿฅพ The hike to Cub Lake is about 2.4 miles each way with roughly 540 feet of elevation gain, taking you through open meadows and beautiful mountain scenery before reaching the lake.

If you encounter elk along the way, enjoy the incredible experience from a distance! During the rut, bull elk can be especially unpredictable. Rocky Mountain National Park requires visitors to stay at least 75 feetโ€”or about two bus lengthsโ€”away from elk, and hikers should remain on designated trails in seasonal elk-closure areas.

๐Ÿ Between the elk, changing aspens, crisp mountain air and beautiful hiking weather, fall is one of our absolute favorite seasons in Estes Park.

Planning a fall getaway? We'd love to welcome you to Estes Mountain Inn after a day exploring the mountains. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸฆŒ September = Elk Season in Estes Park! ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ”๏ธ

One of our favorite times of year has officially arrived in Estes Park โ€” elk rut season!
Each fall, elk move down from the higher elevations and gather throughout the Estes Valley and Rocky Mountain National Park for their annual mating season. If you've never heard the unforgettable sound of a bull elk bugling across a mountain meadow, it's something you have to experience at least once!

๐Ÿ‚ September and October are especially exciting months for elk viewing, and you may spot them throughout town as well as in popular areas of Rocky Mountain National Park like Moraine Park and Horseshoe Park.

๐ŸฆŒ A few reminders for enjoying the rut safely:
โ€ข Give elk plenty of space โ€” Stay at least 75 feet (two bus lengths) away.
โ€ข Never approach or feed wildlife.
โ€ข Use your camera zoom or binoculars for those close-up views.
โ€ข If an elk changes its behavior because of you, you're too close.
โ€ข Bulls can be especially unpredictable and aggressive during the rut, so admire them from a safe distance.

There's just something magical about fall in Estes Park โ€” cool mornings, bugling elk, golden aspens on the way and beautiful days in the mountains. ๐Ÿ

๐Ÿ’™ Fall is one of our busiest and most beautiful seasons, so if you're thinking about an Estes Park getaway, now is a great time to plan your stay at Estes Mountain Inn.

๐Ÿ‚ Now is an incredible time to visit! August weekdays have become much quieter as many families head home and kids return to school. You can enjoy beautiful weather, fewer crowds, and all the beauty of Estes Park before the fall season arrives.

After your sunrise adventure, come back and relax at Estes Mountain Innโ€”your home base for exploring Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park.

๐Ÿ”๏ธ One of America's Most Scenic Drives... and Only Open a Little Longer! ๐Ÿš—

A visit to Estes Park isn't complete without driving Trail Ridge Roadโ€”the highest continuous paved road in North America! Climbing to 12,183 feet, this incredible drive takes you above the trees and into breathtaking alpine tundra with panoramic views you'll never forget.

A few fun facts:
๐ŸŒ„ Trail Ridge Road reaches an elevation of 12,183 feet.
๐ŸŒผ It crosses one of Colorado's largest alpine tundra ecosystems.
๐ŸฆŒ Wildlife sightings are common, including elk, marmots, bighorn sheep, and sometimes even moose.
๐Ÿ‚ The road is typically only open seasonally and is expected to remain open for just a few more weeks, weather permitting. Early snowfall can bring temporary closures or end the season, so now is a wonderful time to experience this unforgettable drive.
โ˜€๏ธ Looking for a quieter mountain getaway? August has become one of our favorite times to visit. With many families heading home and kids returning to school, weekdays around town are noticeably less crowded. You'll find shorter waits at restaurants, more room on hiking trails, and an even more relaxing Estes Park experience.

After a day exploring Rocky Mountain National Park, come back and unwind at Estes Mountain Innโ€”your perfect home base for mountain adventures.

๐Ÿ’™ Now is a great time to plan your Estes Park escape before fall arrives!

๐Ÿ“ Have you driven Trail Ridge Road? What's your favorite overlook or memory from the drive?
