Did you know that Elk frequently hide their calves near buildings?

Populated areas, like our lodge, are the perfect natural deterrent for predators while the newborn elk gains strength in their legs. This time of year, it’s not uncommon to find a mother and baby elk on our property.

Last year, while we had a photographer out taking picture of the property, he had the privilege of catching these beautiful shots of the newborn calve and its mom.

While we love to be a shelter for mom and baby, we also have to keep in mind that the mom elk can be highly aggressive when protecting her calves. This time of year, it’s extra important to check blind corners and stay an extra healthy distance from any elk with babies.

We’re so excited to see the mural project at Misty Mountain Lodge featured by the Estes Valley Voice!

Over the past few days, Colorado muralist Katie Curcio has been transforming one of our exterior walls into a beautiful tribute to Estes Park.

Watching this mural come to life has been incredibly meaningful for us, and we’re grateful to the Estes Valley Voice for sharing the story behind both the artwork and the artist.

Snowfall Report at Misty Mountain Lodge ❄️

It’s been a lighter snow season so far in Estes Park, so we were especially grateful to wake up to a fresh blanket of snow yesterday. The trees are covered, the mountains are bright white, and the whole property feels like a peaceful winter retreat again.

Walking the paths between cabins this morning felt like stepping into a postcard.

If you’re dreaming about a cozy Colorado getaway, winter in Estes Park is showing its magic.
