Thank you Sweet Home Alabama for shining a light on The Fairhope Inn! We love what we do and the sweet community that we serve. Our team is proud to be a “Fairhope Tradition.”
🏡 Would you believe one of Fairhope’s most elegant places to eat began as a family home with a fish market behind it?
The Fairhope Inn on South Church Street was built in 1906 for the Beckner family, when Fairhope was still a small bayside community. Beginning in the 1920s, generations of locals visited the market behind the house to buy Gulf fish, shrimp, crabs and flounder brought in after Mobile Bay jubilees.
That chapter lasted until Hurricane Frederic struck in 1979. The old farmhouse later became an inn and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. By the late 1990s, the property had been transformed into the restaurant and bed-and-breakfast Fairhope knows today.
Now guests can enjoy seasonal dishes, Alabama Gulf seafood, hand-cut steaks and New Orleans-inspired favorites before spending the night in one of the restored rooms just a short walk from downtown and Mobile Bay.
It’s a rare place where Fairhope’s waterfront history, local food and Southern hospitality all meet under one roof.
Have you ever eaten or stayed at the Fairhope Inn? 🌿
