Jimmy Buffett has taken up a permanent position overlooking the Mobile waterfront, and it’s clear that sculptor Ben Victor understood the assignment.

A 7.5-foot-tall bronze statue unveiled Thursday morning outside the National Museum of the Gulf of Mexico doesn’t simply provide a static depiction of Buffett. He’s striding, not standing, with one bare foot in the air, his acoustic guitar raised high and his mouth open in song, and there’s a spirit of glee in the pose that makes him look like some kind of pied piper, which of course he was.

The unveiling of a new statue in Mobile comes shortly before the opening of a major exhibition celebrating Buffett's life and career.

It's been 25 years since the 9/11 terror attacks on America. On Friday, the nation will remember those lost on that fateful day and take a moment of silence in their memory.

On this quarter-century anniversary of the attacks, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum will add a seventh moment of silence to honor those who have died of illnesses related to their time at or near the World Trade Center site.

The City of Gulf Shores is proud and honored to stand alongside Gulf Shores Fire Rescue as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. This solemn event will allow us to reflect on the lives lost, the extraordinary bravery shown by first responders, and the service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the years since.

We invite residents and visitors to join us for the annual 9/11 Memorial and Stair Climb on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at Phoenix Gulf Shores. Hosted by GSFR, the free event welcomes participants of all ages and fitness levels and is a powerful opportunity for our community to come together in unity and remembrance.

Attendees are encouraged to register and complete a waiver in advance.
