Calling all homeschool families!

We’re excited to welcome homeschool students back for another semester of hands-on learning, outdoor exploration, and discovery at Gulf State Park!

Our Spring 2027 Homeschool Day classes will give students the opportunity to explore the natural world, participate in engaging activities, and learn more about the incredible ecosystems and wildlife that make our coastal environment so special.

Registration opens November 10, 2026!

Be sure to mark your calendars and keep an eye out for our upcoming class lineup. We can't wait to explore, learn, and discover with you this spring!

If you haven’t joined one of our FREE Beach Discovery Walks from the lodge lobby, you’re missing out!

The weather has been gorgeous, and the beach is full of things to discover! From shells and shorebirds to handmade sand creatures and more, you never know what you might see!

Pro tip: Arrive a little early and grab a coffee from Roasted Oak in the Lodge lobby. You can take it along and enjoy it during your walk!

Halloween is officially behind us, which means… it’s time to get into the holiday spirit!

Put away the skeletons, bring out the Christmas tree, and kick off the season by joining us for our Pine Needle Ornament Workshop! Enjoy some holiday cheer, learn a few interesting things about our local area, and create a beautiful handmade ornament for your own Christmas tree or as a thoughtful gift for someone special!

Our first workshop will be held November 9 at 1 PM, with several additional dates offered throughout November and December.

We found a little friend hiding at the Learning Campus today! This twiggy little guy is a Northern Walking Stick.

Walking sticks disguise themselves as sticks and twigs to avoid being eaten in the wooded areas they inhabit. Their camouflage works so well that sometimes you can walk right past them while they are in plain sight. Can you spot the walking stick in the second photo?

One creepy cool thing about these guys is that they can intentionally make their leg fall off and regrow it later! They use this weird skill to escape if a predator grabs them.

Trek or Treat 2026 was a spooky success! We love getting to be a part of this community and share educational programming through the lens of fun with locals and visitors of all ages. If you have any fun pictures from this year's Trek or Treat event, don't forget to tag us!

Do you know one of the reasons red rat snakes are commonly called corn snakes?

Spoiler alert: It has to do with one of their favorite foods, and it’s not corn!

Corn snakes are often found in cornfields or near harvested corn because corn attracts rodents like mice and rats. These snakes frequent these areas in search of an easy meal, which also helps farmers by keeping rodent populations in check!
