Our teachers are teaching teachers!
We had such a great few days last week hosting 30 educators from around Alabama for the Legacy, Partners in Environmental Education workshop, "Beach Ecology."
Participants learned about coastal dunes, beach creatures, and Alabama’s coastal ecosystems through engaging activities led by Learning Campus educators and Gulf State Park naturalists! We were also joined by Gulf Shores City Schools , who shared their work with living shorelines and coastal stewardship.
Penny Ragland, Legacy Education Coordinator, led educators through Gyotaku fish printing and an interactive Enviroscape demonstration, while Jun Ebersole from Mcwane Center shared fascinating insights into fossil fishes and Alabama’s ancient past.
Educators gained real-world science experiences and classroom-ready activities they can take back to their students. A special thank you to Woodside Restaurant at Gulf State Park for providing delicious meals throughout the workshop.
We loved getting to know this incredible group and can't wait to see them bring coastal ecology to life in their classrooms!

We had the pleasure of joining Gulf Regional Early Childhood Summer Symposium last week in their mission of sharing the value of hands-on learning. Our education team lead educators in a Phenology Trail Walk to observe changes in plants through natures calendar, Snail Slime to discover more about gastropods and sensory learning, and Organic Gardening for a compost chat with hands-on planting!

Had a blast last week with Bay Camp students! On campus, they experienced Rallying Reptiles and a Squid Dissection. They visited the Interpretive Center, explored the coastal ecosystem with Beach Combing and Shell Identification, and learned about Sea Turtle Nesting. They even enjoyed some time at the Lake Shelby playground in between! There's so much to discover at Gulf State Park. Thank you for making us a part of your summer fun!

FOSSILS FOUND! Last week, Gulf Shores students with Gulf Coast Center for Ecotourism & Sustainability enjoyed an immersive field trip to the Interpretive Center with our education team! Students got to learn all about Paleontologists and Archeologists, what they do, and how to be one. After the short lesson, they got the opportunity to participate in their very own Paleo-tastic excavation, identify what they found, and take it home to show their friends!
We can't wait to see them again soon~
