A post flooding update. One again, we’re all fine here in Kanab and at BC37, but our hearts go out to the many communities across the Southwest affected by this latest round of flooding.

We’re thinking of residents, businesses, animals and landscapes across the Navajo Nation, northern Arizona, including Flagstaff, Sedona, and along the Verde River Valley, and southwestern Colorado, including Durango and communities along the Animas River, as well as Pagosa Springs and those along the San Juan River.

For those looking to support Navajo Nation residents, Diné-led NavajoStrong is helping coordinate flood relief efforts. Please check their Instagram for current donation information and ways to help.

We’ll share more information about ways to support affected communities across northern Arizona and southwestern Colorado as those efforts develop. ❤️‍🩹

While our sunrise didn’t quite look like this today, we did wake up to the end of daylight saving time and, more importantly, the end of the annual “what time is it at camp?” confusion. 😂

We’re officially back on Mountain Standard Time (MST), which means we’re on the same time as Arizona again. No more crossing the state line and wondering what time it is!

With just one week left in our 2026 season, we’ll take it. 🤠⛺️❤️

Happy Halloween from BC37! After all the rain we’ve had this past month, Lake Powell has been getting a little extra boo-st in its water levels, rising more than 13 feet in October! 👻🎃

No tricks needed, just a nice little sweet treat for our favorite desert lake! 🤠

A little appreciation post for the dry washes that wind their way through camp. You know, the ones doing the heavy lifting these last few weeks during the Southern Utah flooding and will continue to as El Niño season rolls along.

Most of the time they’re an almost forgotten part of the landscape, collecting tumbleweeds, and looking like they haven’t seen water in years. But when the desert gets a good soaking, they’re ready to pull their weight.

During the recent storms, these washes channeled runoff through and around camp, doing exactly what nature designed them to do. We incredibly thankful for these glorified ditches, and hope you can share in the gratitude as well. ❤️🤠⛺️

We’ve received quite a few messages checking in on us following the recent flooding across Southern Utah and the Four Corners region. The news is good here at camp. Our washes were hard at work doing exactly what they’re supposed to do, and while our dirt road is a little more rugged than usual, it’s still manageable for all passenger cars.

Kanab fared well overall, with some localized flooding around town, and Kanab Creek has taken another little detour from its historic riverbed.

Our thoughts, though, have been with our neighbors farther east, across Navajo Nation and along the San Juan River corridor, including Bluff, Mexican Hat, Aneth, and Montezuma Creek. The flooding there has been devastating, damaging homes and roads, displacing families, and affecting pets and livestock.

For those looking to help, the Bluff Community Foundation has established a flood recovery fund to provide direct financial assistance to affected families in Bluff and neighboring communities. Donations can be made at https://www.bluffcommunityfoundation.org/relief

Diné-led NavajoStrong is collecting essential supplies for families across the Navajo Nation, including food, water, toiletries, diapers, and warm clothing. Check their Instagram for donation details and collection locations.

Our friends at RezRoadsRescue have also been hard at work supporting affected communities and their animals. They’re currently putting together a disaster relief plan, so follow along with their efforts to see how you can help as needs develop.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in on us. We’re doing just fine here at camp, but many of our neighbors to the east are facing a much different reality right now. If you’re able to help, please consider supporting the people and organizations doing the work on the ground.

Here are a few photos from across the region.

BaseCamp37 through the eyes of Nat and George plus a little note of gratitude that undoubtedly made our hearts sing!

“We stayed with you a few days ago and we are still talking about how amazing our stay was. It’s one of the best experiences of my life! We are on a road trip through west America and I think our stay with you will be on top of our list. We are already talking about coming back.”

Thank you both for coming to visit us and for capturing the camp vibe so perfectly. We cannot wait to welcome you back!

Monsoon season is over, but apparently hurricane season is just getting started here in Southern Utah. Or should we say “Hurrikin” season? IYKYK 😅

With the remnants of Hurricane Rachel making their way across the Southwest, we’re getting our second (!!!) round of hurricane-related weather this year. Not exactly what you’d expect in the middle of the desert in a solidly landlocked state but hey, we aren’t complaining about the precipitation.

We’ll happily take the rain, dramatic skies, and rainbows here at camp. 🌈🤠⛺️

Good news from Zion National Park came in this weekend. Highway 9, the Zion Mount Carmel Highway has officially reopened after being closed due to rockfall in late September.

We’re incredibly thankful for the hard work of all the park staff to repair and reopen this important thoroughfare.

Here are a few of our Zion Mount Carmel hikes:

- Many Pools
- Petroglyph Pools
- Canyon Overlook
- Lower Pine Creek Waterfall

What would you add to this list?
