Sound off: what’s the most important tool officers have at their disposal? Don’t think about it too much, it can be a tool in their 🚨 go-bag 🚨or a skill they possess.

I’ll go first - the gift of 🎙️ gab 🎙️ is the most important tool officers use. Being able to communicate effectively, diffuse a disturbance, and bridge the gap between the community and the police is an underrated skill! 💙

Every May, we will always attend the Missouri State Memorial Service to remember our fallen officers. Please take time to read and listen to this podcast, remembering Thomas Meyers who died in the line of duty in 1998. We always enjoy meeting with and walking with Tom’s family at the memorial. Thank you, Behind The Badge, for remembering our Heroes.

His 25-year law enforcement career was ended by a drunken driver. But Tom Meyers continues to be remembered and honored as a tireless advocate for crime prevention by an award that bears his name.

🥊 Third and final round for our very own Matt Short at tonight's Guns N Hoses boxing match!

The judges may not have given the official win to the blue corner, but Matt is a winner in our hearts (and probably on a few unofficial scorecards in the crowd). Stepping into the ring takes courage, dedication, and more conditioning than most of us are willing to sign up for!

We're proud of Matt for representing KCPD and the FOP with grit, determination, and class. Thank you to everyone who came out to support him and all the fighters who put on a great show for a great cause. 👊💙

Here we go!!!

Update: 3 tickets left!

The Lodge has 8 General Admission tickets available for tonight's Guns N Hoses boxing event at Municipal Auditorium!

Doors open at 5:30 PM, and the first bout starts at 7:00 PM.

Come cheer KCPD's own Matthew Short on to a victory. Cheer him on, make some noise, and enjoy a great night of boxing for an even greater cause. Plus, where else can you legally watch police officers and firefighters settle their differences with gloves on?

If you'd like tickets, get ahold of Janna or Todd before they're gone. We can't guarantee a knockout, but we can guarantee a good time!

If you’re not an organ donor, please consider becoming one…But also do something positive today to honor the life of Officer Blaize Madrid-Evans.

Do you know Blaize? If you don’t, you should.

Blaize was a police officer for the Independence Missouri Police Department. A young man with a bright future. A hero while he was alive.

In 2021, Blaize was shot and killed in the line of duty. A family shattered, a great life lost, a hero down.

But did Blaize stop being a hero as he took his last breath? Absolutely not.

Blaize was an organ donor. At the same time Blaize was passing, we had a hero of our own down here. Mark Priebe. Mark had been an Aurora Police Officer at the start of his law enforcement career and went to Springfield PD where he had a long career. As you should remember, Mark was seriously injured and nearly killed when a lunatic targeted him in the police department’s parking lot and hit him with a vehicle.

Mark suffered but survived. He ended up needing a kidney. Guess who responded to Mark’s call for help with heavenly lights and sirens? Blaize.

Today is Blaize’s birthday. Would you do something to honor him? Would you do something small for a stranger? Buy them a Quenchers? Buy their lunch in the drive through? Help someone load their groceries? Say something kind and uplifting?

Tell them Blaize sent you.

Today, many will celebrate the unofficial start of summer — pools opened, grills fired up, cold drinks in hand, and time spent with family and friends. But we know Memorial Day is more than a long weekend.

Memorial Day is a day we pause to remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Because of them, we are able to enjoy the freedoms so many of us often take for granted.

We remember the brave men and women who answered the call to serve, fully knowing the risks that came with defending this nation and the freedoms we hold dear. We also honor the families who carried that sacrifice alongside them: the spouses who endured long deployments, the children who grew up missing a parent, the parents who received the knock on the door no family should ever have to face, and the loved ones who continue carrying that loss every single day.

🇺🇸May we live lives worthy of their sacrifice and may we never forget the cost of freedom.🇺🇸
